0:42Well, I found out that I like crime movies. Do you? Yeah, like Mafia and stuff like that. Well, that's the new one. Like Heat? Yeah, like Heat and Godfather and Criminal Activity is somehow interesting in films. We're gonna have to keep an eye on you. Oh, did you watch Goodfellas? No, no, I haven't seen it yet. You're gonna have to watch Goodfellas. I'll have to watch that one. I think it's a good composition of that movie. There's some movies I still haven't seen like Goodfellas and that movie you were talking about the other day, Untouchables. Untouchables would probably be good to see. And then what else is there? There's some other famous... You're the man now, dog. Is that a movie that's any good? I don't know. Yeah, yeah. Kakarot. But I like it when it's sort of more realistic, you know, grounded and sort of...

You know, the richest man in the 70s, 80s, the cocaine master lord. What's his name again? Can you repeat it? Pablo Escobar. No, I haven't heard of him. So he was like the drug lord, you know, from the 70s. He got all the cocaine from Colombia to Miami and the US.

2:08And it's a Netflix show about him. Interesting. From his point of view and a point of view to DEA agents who are there. And it is amazing. Cool. Yeah. You'll enjoy it. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. I watched another film recently because I was looking at the A24. Is that the company? The production company? Yeah, yeah. They don't actually produce... Sorry, not production company. What is that called? Publishing. Yeah, releasing. They release different films from different... Productions. And I watched the movie called A Most Violent Year. Have you ever heard of this film?

2:48I have. I've heard of it, but I haven't seen it. It's one of their releases. And it stars... I don't know the actor's name, but he was... He played Poe Dameron in Star Wars. Oh, okay. Oscar something. Isaac. Yeah, yeah. Oscar Isaac. He has two first names. And he was in that film, and that was a good movie. Again, crime-related. Interesting. It takes place in the 80s in Chicago. What is a film in Chicago? The old chicky. Possibly. Was it Chicago? No. Anyway, guys, welcome to the Matrix Minute. Yes, it was Chicago for sure. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Anyway. I have the most tastiest tea here with lemon and sugar. It's intense. And also, Joe Pantagliano has a very big role, prominent role in Bound as opposed to Matrix.

3:35Okay. He's crazy. He's still villainous, but yeah. Great. But still, but major. I'll tell you what I've been doing. Yeah, go ahead. I was listening to the score for Enter the Matrix. It's wonderful. It's a wonderful score. Who did the score? Eric Lundborg. Way to go, Eric. Hey, why do I know that last name? He imitated Don Davis so well. I thought it was Don Davis' name the whole time. It's awesome. It's wonderful hearing music that was created for the Matrix, but used in a, just with different cues and different ways that he plays with the themes. And it's wonderful. Just wonderful. Enter the Matrix has an underrated, wonderful score. And if I knew about it back in 2003, we could have put that in our Matrix films.

4:19So we'd have more of an original score than just taking it from the movies. True. That's funny how you didn't discover it right until later. Yeah. Anyway, as far as crime movies going on, I'm a big fan of that. No. You should watch The Wire. Yeah? What's that? That's like the biggest and best TV show in the world, apparently. I've never heard anybody say anything bad about it. It's just about crime. I've never seen it. So I can't. I just find it fascinating. I recommend. These underground worlds. Yeah. It's horrible, too. You know? Yeah. The anarchist one, which was very funny, was that it reminded me a lot of Yugoslavia because of the corruption. And it was like sort of in the same way, similar years. Like the main stuff happens late 80s, early 90s. So it's like, I'm just like, ah, watching, watching home.

5:00Well, I think the strangest thing is that, you know, especially these mafia worlds is like, all they do pretty much is that, you know, day in and day out, it was just, you have to read people and know how to respond. And it's all a game, you know? And it's pretty crazy. I wonder how mafias like function at this day of age when everything is like online and internet, like that whole world of, I know this guy, you know him, we're good. I don't know if that works anymore. It doesn't exist anymore. I don't think it exists anymore. That kind of organized crime stuff. They have fingerprint readers now. Or does it? I don't even actually want to think what it exists like today because it's probably like horrible, like much worse.

5:41I'm just waiting for John Wick 3. Because, you know, back then when you think of these mafia, John Wick 3, I would like to see that too. Because when you think of these mafia organizations, you know, the reason why I think they're so fascinating for some of us is because there's this strange, almost like paradoxical blend between principles, like being kind and showing manners and having like a high lifestyle, you know, like a glamorous lifestyle while also, you know, dressing well and doing sort of things that we expect high society to do. But at the same time, you're like, you know, ordering people to get killed, you know? You're basically living like a Neanderthal, really, like at base levels. Just like, you against me, you die.

6:23Exactly. But at the same time, you know, like you're in real life, you're still acting as if, and everyone knows that who they really are behind the veil. But yeah, that's the whole paradox. I mean, I'm just happy we have people like Batman to save us. I know. It's awesome. You dream that in a way, buddy. You think of Batman. Batman. Next time you walk it down. He's stopping Falcone. Yeah. Well, there's some mafia, the Batman. Yeah. I feel like watching Dark Knight now. Okay. The Dark Niggat. The Dark Niggat. It's funny that Dark Niggat and Iron Man 1 came out the same year.

7:03And remember that was like, Dark Knight was like the biggest comic book movie at that time. Like seriousness. And it was like, this is the, this is going to, you know, it's funny that you think back like what MCU, that like no one really cared about Iron Man 1 at the beginning. No. So things change. Things change. You think you know, you think, you think, blah. You figure things out. You think you know, you think, you think. You never know. You think you know. You think you think you think. 7:44The future is our time. Smith concludes. Agent Jones comes in and says there could be a problem. In the Nebuchadnezzar, Tank explains that they're getting into Morpheus's mind to get the codes for Zion's mainframe computer. And he stresses how important it is that they don't get them. Trinity looks at the dead bodies after Cypher's betrayal. Tank explains that Zion is more important than any of them. Even Morpheus. All right. So before we start talking about this minute in particular, I wanted to mention that I have been a little lazy. I haven't been using my notes. I haven't been doing some research. And I found some stuff. Are you going to apologize, Philip? I didn't say sorry. That's true. You didn't say sorry. Okay, good. I just said that we're going to have to go a little bit back to the TV repair shop

8:25and just talk about one little bit of trivia that Phil Osterhaus had, which I thought was pretty interesting. Okay, I have an embarrassing thing to ask. This is horrible. We've had 90 plus episodes. Who exactly is Phil Osterhaus again? He was the personal assistant to the Wachowskis when they were filming Matrix. And I think Bound. Was that P.A.? Yes. Personal assistant? No, no, no. P.A. That's a production assistant. Oh, sorry. Production assistants are different. Okay. First A.D.? No. No. For these who's the personal assistant? Is that an official job? Like, you know, in the credits it goes, assistant to Mr. So- Yeah, what does that mean? Okay. That's their assistant. And I got to talk to some assistants in my time. Right? Like a runner. They were closely with them. Like a runner? Yes. And they just help. No, no.

9:05The P.A.'s, production assistants are runners and they do stuff for everybody. But assistants specifically have to just help the director or the producer, sometimes even like cinematographer maybe. If it's too complicated to just go through all kinds of lists and the scheduling. Like the nitty gritty. Yeah. Going through the- So it's not so much pressure. Details. Mm-hmm. So it's a little bit like manager-y kind of thing. So then how come he had so many, because we mentioned his name a lot of times in this podcast and he had a lot of creative influence, didn't he? No, I don't. I didn't read any of that. Okay. Well, I misremembered then. So what's the fact here with Phil Osterhaus?

9:46Well, the fact here is that Phil said that at the TV repair house, there was a rumor that the building that they shot it in, which was a real building, wasn't a set. Mm-hmm. It was apparently haunted by a ghost who shot himself in the basement. And then the weirdest part is that when they were going through the dailies and they were watching what they shot the previous day, there was a shadowy figure that could be seen behind Trinity as she talked on the phone. And it freaked some people out. Oh, man. And then the Wachowski said they wanted to use that take. Because you can see... Is it in the movie? You can see the creepy shadow in the background. Well, I want to see it now. But according to him, according to Phil Osterhaus, and he says this, you know, jokingly, the

10:28lawyers couldn't be reached for the spirit to get the legal clearance. Oh, so it wasn't... So no ghost? No, no ghost take. Shadow? Oh. Someday we'll see the ghost take. Can we email Foster House to... I know. We should get him in the last episode. It'd be amazing. Actually, I have a friend who worked with Phil Osterhaus. Really? So we're going to have to... I should... Yeah, yeah. That would be the most amazing trivia stuff. He has all the trivias. That's what I'm saying. Like I said before, we need to get on... Ghosts and goblins. For the final days of the podcast, we need him to divulge everything. Yeah. And according to Osterhaus, this is what he said on the Art of the Matrix book. He said, if you believe Joey Pants, Cypher didn't really die.

It was called Wikipedia. I read Origin of the Species. That's right. Bye. I was going to think of a funny name. I couldn't think in time. The first edition has nothing about monkeys and humans. And I was angry. I believe you're monkeys. We're not getting into that. Anyway, so he says it's their time. The machines. The machines time. It's their future. Yep. And Morpheus is like, mm. Yep. And then I wanted to mention this wonderful camera wipe that goes from Agent Brown.

12:30You can see a little bit of Smith and Morpheus and he goes to Jones. And Jones goes, there could be a problem. So what do you think? What do you think he came in to tell these people about? Like, was he on his computer? Like I mentioned, they're on their computers in the building. They have computers in the buildings and then they're researching. And he goes out and goes, there could be a problem. I checked my computer. Yeah, I guess. I don't think they thought that through. What's the problem? Problem is that Cypher's not here, right? Yeah. Yeah. That's what it seems like. It's like, where's Cypher? I was getting ready his career. I have his agent and his manager.

13:12We wanted to go over the final details of what movies do you want to be in. Yeah, yeah. I was editing IMDB as we spoke. Putting him in and then he's not here. I worked all day. I slaved. Nothing. Pulled an all-nighter. Yeah. And look what happens. Nothing. You know, that's what I was thinking. They could easily make like movies and they could change the character because it's all computer graphics in the first place. But that's true. Put the Cypher model in there and they just have Mr. Reagan be the main character. How cool would that be? Well, first of all, there's a movie called Bound. We'll put him in there. Memento. Yeah, yeah. Something about being forgetful. That sounds like a really good one. Point Break. Yeah, you can play the Gary Busey role.

13:53Erase Gary? He wants to be Mr. Reagan. Like an actor. Put in Mr. Reagan. So I think he'd be the Nia. What am I talking about? The Keanu Reeves. Erase Mr. Reeves. Hey, this looks kind of like that guy Nia. Well, I mean, look. We have... We can't... Oh, yeah. He's gone anyway. We can't make unique models for how many? Six billion people. So we duplicate them sometimes. Exactly. I wonder, yeah. Well, remember the... Oh, no. That's shit. That's the tester. What's it called? The tester environment. What's it called? The construct? They had the doubles. For a second, I was confused. That was real life. And Matrix, maybe they're like,

14:34ah, you know what? Let's just reuse that, you know? They'll never meet. That's true. I agree. You know what's funny? I was thinking, speaking of the agents and their life that we don't see off screen. You mean Exit Mr. Hat, the show. I was thinking, you know what I did a great addition is with these agents and their machines and their programs, how cool it would be if all the agents are really terrible at knowing all the computer shortcuts and they're like laymen. So imagine like Agent Brown typing in the IMDB things and he's erasing Keanu Reeves' name and he's just backspacing each key. And listen to this. And Agent Smith is so smart. He comes next to him and holds backspace. And it's like, how did you do that? And he's like, you hold it.

15:16It's like, it was so lame because he didn't even know the other controls. Yeah, yeah. I figured it out. I'm smart. Yeah. So it cuts away. I'm better. From we have a problem to Morpheus kind of looking under the weather. Wouldn't even say under the weather. He looks like he's about to pop. I think he's just, what's so happening to him? Not that one, Drew. It's the silver stuff. They're hiking. They're turning his brainwaves in the ship. Yep, yep. He's, they're trying to hack in his computer. His computer of the mind. So Tank says, like, they're breaking into his mind. It's like hacking a computer. All it takes is time. And in the wide shot, that's the wide shot where Tank is explaining that. You can see Trinity on the right. Like an anime character standing back there

15:57and looking at the wall. Mm-hmm. Yes, she is. She's standing there and looking and concerned. That gives that kind of, yeah, it gives that kind of anime feel, like from the 80s. Like when they do serious stuff, that's kind of body language of the lone cool guy in the corner thinking about, you know, the mission. So the main event is Tank showing the display to Neo, saying his brainwave patterns will turn from this. And we see here on the screen, it says the right and the left hemisphere, which I never saw that before. It's the first time I've seen that. And I don't know how brainwaves display. I guess this is something to do with,

16:37is it accurate to actual sort of a scan? I'm not sure. I'm not a brain specialist. I am not the brain specialist. No anesthetic. It looks like first, it's like an organic kind of like a wavelength, like an actual song. And it turns into just like a sine wave, like a computer generated wave, which is like perfect. It's very wavy, perfect. And I guess it makes him blissful. Now go back, keep it on the screen. I think it's implying that he'll be brain dead. Yeah, I guess it's like, he'll turn it into like one, like just like a noise.

17:18But what I'm laughing at, I wanted to say something real quick. Yeah, what is this? This is probably a user interface designed by Zion. And it seems like Zion has a pretty good merch thing going because there is a button for store. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. And you can go shopping. Model, like you buy. And I think you can also buy a log. I think that's all they have right now. Why is there store? Three logs. We need more firewood. Five logs. Okay, log, it's okay. Yeah. Stats is okay. Data file is great, except it has a heart picture. I love the icon.

17:58Let's go through them. So it says data file. That's the first option. There is a menu on the side of the screen. Oh man, on the screen, it's a real heart. Let's go through it. It's a data file. I thought it was like an Instagram-like heart. No, no, there's a data file. And right to the left of it, the icon is a real heart. Yeah, I don't know why. I think it's a drawn heart. It's a drawn heart. Yeah, like a drawn heart, but like an anatomically correct drawn heart. And then below that is stats. There's a nice little silhouette of a person's head. That one's highlighted. And a nice highlighted brain, which I said- Yeah, that's what we're looking at right now. Yeah, we're looking at the stats of the brain. And then underneath there is store. Shopping. I mean, you guys know it means store, like you're just going to log in, like save the brain.

18:39Yeah, record. But it's so good though. I think- Imagine if it was like a store. In Zion. That's hilarious. Yeah, yeah. That's amazing. Gotta shop some brains, you know. Schmeckles. And log, obviously. And log, of course, is the most boring option. Stool, yeah. Of these. Stool. So yeah, he's still- Yeah, I think the store recorded, because it's like a matrix kind of thing. So you'd record someone's brain map, I guess. So after that, Neo actually asks what all this is about and why it's so important. And Tank says, the leader of every ship is given codes to Zion's mainframe computer. If an agent got to the codes and got into Zion's mainframe,

19:20it could destroy us. Can't let that happen. That's right. So, do you want to talk a little bit about this mainframe computer? I guess. Do you want to know- Still don't know what it is. It's a computer. There's a little bit in the script, the old 1996 script, if you want to hear about that. I don't think it's worth having a do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do. Okay, let's do it quick. Because there's just like two little sentences that are different. No, to-do-do-do-do-do. There's this little bit of dialogue that was taken out, but most of the line is pretty much intact, except for this one part where he says, if an agent got inside Zion's mainframe, he could do anything,

20:00disable the defense system, it could be the end of us. I see. Right. So, it's just like a main computer that, they should work on their security. Yeah, it seems like Zion. No, but Zion has good security. Look, they haven't been hacked ever. Well, Tank says, we can't let that happen. We have to do it, Trinity. Zion has to be protected. I think this is like 90s kind of way of thinking. Like, there's one computer that you give like passwords to the main people and they can go there and they can look at it and they're the safe keepers and like everything's there. Yeah, and it's also interesting. No one has like a security.

20:40Yeah, and it's also interesting that, you know, this is pre-time limits for codes and things like this. So, you know, obviously they could change the code remotely. Yeah. So, even if they got, excuse me, fingerprint readers or something. If they were using codes, it would be too late because they would have timed out and it's not accepted. Or like, they have a store option there for the brain. So, store the mapping of everyone's brains and only those people can access it. Oh, well, there you go. Codes. What are we? Cavemen? Oh, yeah. It's a four-digit code. Yeah, it's a little bit of a... Neo. It's a little bit of an early 90s. It's a one-digit code. Machines will never see that coming.

21:22And they're trying all kinds of different digits. They're trying. Strings with a hundred characters, but little did they know. What? It's just one number. And guess what the number is. Come on, guys. What do you think of this? One, of course. Leo. Of course. That's a secret. That's the irony. Imagine what a horrible plot that would be. Wow. And then, like, you know, they get to the Xiamen frame and you see the keypad. Zero. Oh, sorry. One. Oh, yeah. That's it? What'd you think, Neo? Neo, what'd you think? The machines would never think of something so human. Ha ha! So, Yeah, anyway. This scene is supposed to be, you know,

22:02all bets are off. It's now or never. We have to do something about this. And then, then there's just a shot of Trinity here. It's a wonderful shot. It's overhead shot kind of thing. Oh, are these the famous ghosts? You can see the dead bodies. These are from... Foster House. Yeah, well, yeah, there's... Foster's House. There's Apoc and Switch and Mouse and Dozer. No Cypher. No, they checked out. Oh, they checked them out. They just checked them out. I thought they would... Puked on him. I mean, not puked on him. Sorry. Span on him. Yeah, well, I thought they would put Cypher's in there as well because then... Maybe Trinity's head's covering it.

22:42Maybe. Because then, you know, like, bodies, once they're dead, you can't tell who's who. They're just dead. Puked. That was the line they're going to add. Yeah. Tank's line. So exciting. So exciting. Sounds so creepy. It's creepy. Cypher's day. So exciting. It's great. Good times. Oh, man. Morpheus. He's like a father to us. So exciting. Everything's exciting. Very exciting time. So Tank comes up with his... Not yet, Jacob. What are you talking about? This is in the next episode. Whatever. That was beautiful. I was waiting for one of you to go... To go too far.

23:23Yeah. Oh, God. It's blurring, man. Everything's blurring. Yeah. Well, I just wanted to say all he says in this minute is Zion's more important than any of them. You know? Zion's more important than me, you, or even Morpheus. Zion's more important. He's a Zionist. And they never showed him Zion. Zionist. The raves have to continue. The dancing has to continue. He never grinded his body against wet strangers in a cave. Yeah, but... Yeah, but... Nor did the old man take him to the machines that clear the water. That's so exciting. That's all you can do, Zion. That was a pretty good scene, I think. Exciting times. Very exciting times. Talk to an old man about machines. So exciting.

24:05That's it. Well, I just wanted to say this echoes with something that Tim said on our outtakes for our fan film, End of the Matrix. And Tim will not remember this, but I remember it. It's always in my head. And Tim actually goes through this. You little, got that, you little piece of junkies. The world is way better than us. Ah. That's what he said. I love that. 24:45that we made in 2003 in December. I think it was December 11th. And Tim was just saying, spouting random nonsense and I'm just recording him. And he's in costume and everything and he's just, you got that, you little piece of junkies? The world is way better than us. I sound like Scooby-Doo. You got that? I remember this line. I remember it. The world is way better than us. That sounds like Yoda. Yes, it does. Vader. Darth Vader. What else happens? What's it? I mean, this is a tense scene. It's tense.
