0:00Welcome back to the Matrix Minute. It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down Friday. Welcome. Did you know that the first Matrix... Hey, no overusing old jokes. Reusing, I mean. What do you want to say? The first Matrix was built to be a perfect world where everyone could be happy. With me is Jacob, and Tim... Everyone could have their own computer room. Where everyone gets a computer. Alright, well, in this case, we're on Minute 92. Alien 3 came out in 1992. David Fincher hated Alien 3. He disowned it. He doesn't want to talk about it. Which is a shame, because many people started to like Alien 3 now.
0:40Maybe we should say who we are. I'm Jake. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I'm Tim. And the man introducing is... Philip. Philip. Yes. It's my legal name. So, Alien 3 came out. Whatever. This isn't the Alien podcast. Yeah, what are you doing sidetracking? Let's talk about the minute, Philip. Yeah, stop sidetracking. Tangents of other films. I can't believe you. Let's come back to the minute. So, anyway, in this minute, read the description. Okay. What? Where's the description? Oh, okay. Get your description. Look at the United Nine prepared. Efficiency. It's Friday. Come on. These people are going to go get drunk and party. They're not wasting their time. We have to prepare them.
1:21Minute 92. Smith continues talking to Morpheus about how the first Matrix was a disaster and entire crops were lost. Smith monologues about how the primitive humans couldn't accept the perfect world as Asian Brown injects him with some crazy fluid in the neck. Smith explains that once the Matrix was redesigned to what it is now, the civilization of humans turned into the civilization of the machines. And evolution, Morpheus. Evolution. Like the dinosaur. He leans in next to Morpheus. So, Phil, do you have the evolution of the dinosaur? Do you have the transcript and stuff? The only dinosaurs that survived and evolved were the theropods. What about the theory that the dinosaurs...
2:02The theropods are long gone. The ones where, you know, the sun sort of... Baked their balls? Yeah. What? What? This is LXD extinction. Extinction. Ah, shit. A extinction theory of them making their balls. Yeah. Like the sun was so hot and the temperatures got so high that their balls, you know, it disintegrated their reproductive possibilities. Yeah. And so it's like... That sounds hilarious. I can't. I can't. Tonight. I wanted a baby. I can't. The balls are fried. How are their balls frying out their bodies, though? I don't know.
2:43The sun rays just immediately strike. They're like heat signatures striking, ball destroying. I don't know, man. Interesting theory. Okay. So... Since we're on the stupid subject, the last thing they said, let's push it up. Let's go from the end to... Yeah, let's do it. Let's do it. Go for it. I hate when movies use evolution. Well, I kind of hate when anyone uses evolution, doesn't understand evolution, how it works. It's always like these old... Like they'd been in school in the 70s or 80s. Right, right, right, right. And they picked up a few things and they... From the 1940s, man. It's like evolution that everyone pictures... First thing they picture is, you know, the monkey going to a man. Yeah. Kind of thing. Right. It's a straight projection.
3:24Like that's the final form is a man and the monkey decided to be better and become a man. That's a classic one. And then the other one is that, you know, survival of the fittest. Yeah, it's going to say that. Bad, bad, bad, bad wording. Description. Yeah. There's no fittest. There's no strongers. There's no... Wises. Honestly, it's just the one that doesn't die. Yeah. That's it. The one that didn't die, that's one we see, you know. Well, and also the one that's best suited to its environment. It doesn't have to be. The thing is the evolution is... It's not even best suited for the other one. But it's part of it though. It's one element that helps not that species to die out. Oh, but you're saying just the core...
4:05A mechanism is just survival. It's not even a mechanism. It's just reality. If you're able to reproduce, you will move on. Yeah. And you know, there's things that prohibit you from, you know... Like pandas. All they do is... Like the sun. Yeah, the sun. Or, you know, like in case you're a very simple organism and you just divide, it doesn't really matter. I mean, there's so many different like elements that affect that environment. I know, but you have to pass down good genes that'll help your offspring survive though. You know, there's so many things that kind of like influence the fact that you survive or not. So it's like... True. No, really, you know.
4:46True. So it's always like in movies and in our ways, it's always used kind of incorrectly. Like it's like, you know, it's always a bad guy and he goes like, you know, you need to evolve and be better like me. Right. You know what I mean? It's just like... But I guess like... They're alive, so they're still here. So you can't really, you know... I guess though, like evolution has also become a... Evolution. Evolution. Synonym for growth. Or like you said, betterment. Yeah. Which doesn't necessarily correlate to evolution in nature. In the natural world. Yeah. It's always like machines going like, where's the next step of it? It's like, there's no next step of evolution. That's okay. I don't mind the language though, because I know what they mean. They mean better. They're not talking about... I guess, but it's kind of like... They're not talking about natural selection.
5:26I know, but it's always like... It's like... Natural selection. Natural selection. So how about this? I'll change the line. I'll go to this. It's not natural selection or evolution, but just betterment. I would just go for another angle. That's all. I don't have a problem with it like too much, but it's just that it's... It's a pet peeve where it's like a misunderstanding. It's spreading the misunderstanding further, just because... But that's any sort of movie trope anywhere, you know. It's always like prolonging and like making the misconception just everyone... Because everyone, as we know, in our generation, we learn things from movies.
6:08What is in the movies is set in stone and that's how it is. Yeah. Raptors still look like they do in Jurassic Park. Yeah. Which is awesome, but you know. Yeah. I like the feathered ones. So if we move from backwards... What did you say? What did you say? Tim? I like the feathered dinosaurs. Fine. Whatever. I like accuracy. I don't care about your... I can't do Jurassic Park dinosaurs. The lizard men. They're great. But... The lizard breed. We're not going to talk about this. It's going to be half an hour feather versus non-feathered dinosaurs. It's going to be so boring. I'm not against the truth. I'm just saying that the naked ones look better. I'm saying... Again, I'm for the truth. I like them aesthetically better when they're crazy feathered and colorful.
6:48I'm just so bored of classic leathery skin wallets. Well, that's weird because for me, once they get feathery and they look like birds, it's so boring to see them running around. It's like, I don't even want to see these things build back to life. I will not be participating in this conversation. I do. Yeah. I like it. I did see it. It's breath pressure. They just look like birds. And then it's boring. Six foot turkey. Yeah. I don't want to look at leather wallets with teeth fucking around. I do. Anyway, so moving backwards. Okay, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine. So Morpheus gets stick with like silver fluid. And I want to... Let's talk about the silver fluid. I want to do a shout out. I can't, for the love of me, remember who wrote this. But a long, long time ago when this podcast started...
7:29Are we done with feathers? Yes. Yes. Thank you. So a long, long time ago when we started this podcast and people wrote in. It was a time of our lives. We were ahead and we were like... We were so energetic and full of life. So somebody wrote in, I can't remember who it was, and they had some questions. And they mentioned this scene in the future. And they asked, is this the silver fluid that he's injecting into his throat? The same one that consumed Neo as he was pulled into the mirror of truths. Do you think there's a connection between these things? Is there some kind of special material that's like trans or just like, oh, here's special silver?
8:13Well, I think that'd be kind of cool. I don't know. Like... Why would you inject silver into someone's throat to sell the truth? Like, it's like, he's like a werewolf. You can't take it. Ah! Too much. I don't know. It just looks cool. That's true. That is true. It looks pretty cool. They should have used like neon highlighter fluid. No! Kidding. Like you mean from False Swipe? Like Predator Blood? Or from False Swipe, the hit TV series? Yeah. Yeah. Our movies that had special alien blood. Yes. Which was yellow. No, no. They were all... Marker fluid. Yeah. Pink marker fluid and green marker fluid. They should have used those. Yeah.
8:53Exactly. They would have been something. The three essences of life. Pink, green, and yellow. No, I think it's just coincidence. So let's see. Going back. So we talked about the dinosaurs. No, I just want to say that's one of my favorite lines ever. Yeah. Yeah. This won't trigger your dinosaur arguments. It's okay. It's already been triggered. It's been released. When he says evolution, like the dinosaur, I just love that it's not plural, like the dinosaurs, because I like that it's sort of, it's a persona, not personifying, but it's like, it's a paradigm, you know, like the dinosaur. And that represents, you know, an old age in the earth and a different time. And he's sort of hearkening back to that.
9:34And then he's trying to tell his tale about this overarching theme of the machines being the next step. It's great. It's almost like archaic, you know, like the dinosaur. And he's also a little bit poking fun also, I think, at humanity in a sense where, you know, like we perceive ourselves as an important part of history. Maybe he's like, I don't care about anything. He's just like, I don't care about history or looking at this stuff. I just care about us, the machines, you know, it's very arrogant. I know, it's triggering me again so hard. I know, I know, but forget it. Because I have a misconception that like, in evolutionary survived means better. Like, why would the machines happen? I know, Tim, we talked about this. Why would we go? I know, it's triggering me again.
10:15Why would we go like, oh, we're better. We evolved better. Leave him alone. He has his own opinions about what's better. They didn't evolve. They were just created. Take him, take him to school. Take, take Smith. They don't care about that. Look. Read the books. In the computer rooms that they're in, he doesn't. He's on Wikipedia. He's playing video games or something. Let me look at this dinosaur on Wikipedia. Ball zapped. We need to look up that theory. I will use this in the interrogation. What do you think, Jones? I don't know, man. Just to say whatever. Just don't forget the silver liquid. Mmm, yes. The dinosaur. Yes, the silver liquid. But anyway, I like that he says, like, the dinosaur. Okay, enough with the dinosaurs.
10:55Let's keep going. So, uh... You know what killed the dinosaur? Oh, no. Oh, no. Okay, come on. Let's go. So then he talks about... What does he talk about? He's just like the humans rejecting beauty. He's going through his whole speech about... But we talked about that with... Way back in episode 40. Yeah, we kind of skipped ahead a bit. Did we? We talked with Gary Roby Jr. about the first Matrix, the second Matrix. I mean... Go back to those episodes. Yeah. Oh, was this... Oh, yeah. It's really cool. Play the... Play the... Like, you know, like... Clip. Oh, you know... Do you guys know what bottle episodes are? Huh? In television, do you know what bottle episodes are? No.
11:36I know. Can I guess? I don't. Yeah, go ahead. Are they episodes where they recycle old stuff? Like in memories and stuff like that? Oh, yeah, yeah. Oh, I remember. I don't know why. Maybe they didn't finish at time or something or what? The thing is that you get a fixed budget for your entire season, but sometimes you have episodes that require more budget, let's say more effects or more explosions or more expensive or actor. So what you do, you kind of spread the budget around. And there's this classic thing that, you know, in television, it's okay. You know, people are used to it. So we can do... You can just totally pull the budget out of one episode. Usually it's called the bottle episode. And, you know... Like sitcoms, they usually go with the route with just playing old clips and usually have
12:18like the main three characters sitting in a room and they're recollecting. So that's when you play the clips and it's a clips bottle episode and you save a lot of money. If it's like drama, usually what you do like in Breaking Bad, like that one episode, The Fly, they had just Bryan Cranston, you know, the main protagonist and Jesse Pinkman, you know, played by... I forgot what the actor's name is. And it's just two of them and Bryan Cranston basically directed it. So, you know, you don't have to pay a lot of people, just a small little crew in one room and save a lot of money. And the next one, you can have like a humongous ass explosion. So that's about it. There you go. The more you know. I remember that in some shows how it's like really disappointing. Nothing happens.
12:59It was weird. I didn't understand. Like, why is this happening? Like, what happens? I think I heard of that before, the whole thing with the... I don't remember though, but the budget, but I was... Yeah. That's true. So there you go. That's the reasoning. It's very interesting. I don't know why it was brought up, but sure. How did we bring this up? Yeah, how did we get there? Oh, because of our... Because of our last episode. We were talking about the old episodes, yeah. Oh, that's right. We were going to do a bottle episode. Yeah. Cheap. Well, luckily though, no bottle episodes here because no budget. Yeah. So anyway... But they do that, like even some podcasts. Sorry, Philip, to disrupt you. Yeah, they do... Some podcasts I listen to like, oh, I'm kind of busy out of town, so here's a few clips that relate to each other or like a whole ass episode just like be like throwback. Exactly. Throwback. This is related to what we're talking about this day.
13:40This is related to Trump. So here's an episode from like 400 years ago. Here's an episode from 1997. Here's an episode from the first recorded episode. You know what the most bizarre thing I've ever heard on a podcast? I never listened to this show. Yeah. Okay. I listened to maybe one, maybe two episodes. It's called Shop Talk, I believe is the podcast. Okay. It's about... You know the website, csstricks.com? Yes. Yes. Good guys. Those guys. Sorry. Good website. Yeah. Very good website. If you're a web developer, especially frontend, don't ever go to W3. That website, it's always on the front. It's old school. Because that's not actually W3 certified. That's just a company or whatever that decided to use W3 as a brand.
14:24No way. And they... Yeah. It's not actually, you know, the W3, whatever standards. The standards. Yeah. Yeah. It's just them. And it's like... It's the worst explanation, the worst examples. And it's terrible. And they also have very old examples. They're not really talking about new technologies or incorporating standard practices. It's just not good. Skip that one. Yeah. Anyway, this podcast is run by those guys or some of the guys from CSS Tricks. Ooh. And it was the most bizarre... Sorry. It's okay. I'm so sorry for coughing. It was the most bizarre experience because they did an episode where they pretended to be themselves from 2006. That's amazing. The whole way.
15:05It was like an hour long. Like they're actually like doing the design stuff and everything like... Pretending. Like, and they're talking about like technology 2006. They're talking about their flip phone. They're talking about Verizon. That sounds amazing. Yeah. So maybe I should link that. Yeah. I would love to hear that. Because I was thinking before I clicked it, I was like, oh, this is amazing. Like an archival episode of like some demo they made in 2006. Like this is amazing. But no, it's just them, you know, in the present day. Yeah. Recreating that. So that was the most bizarre ever podcast. Speaking of like formats and stuff. Phil, you can come back now. Yeah. What is... What is... That's pretty cool. It's safe to come back. What does Morpheus have on his forehead? What do you mean?
15:45Is that a bruise from head-butting Smith so hard? Yeah, dude. If they really added that detail, I am very impressed. Colored me. Look at that. Look at that. Because look at that. It looks like a bruise on his forehead. I never noticed it. Like the blood is still the mustache blood? Wow. Yeah, the mustache blood. So yeah. Did I... Did I... Did I miss that episode? When he's fighting... Yes, yes, you did. You missed that episode. Oh, bollocks. Because there's my favorite... My favorite face of... Smith. Of Morpheus. Sorry, I'm going to bring this back. No, do it. Not your chance. I'm going to make it to the episode. But when... I think it's right before Smith does the multiple, you know, fists of...
16:29You know, like... No, is it multiple fists? No, he doesn't do that. But there's this face of like rejection that Morpheus does. It's like... And when he's like... When he's fighting, like he's already losing. It always reminds me of my friend when we were kids. We were in the summer camp. Oh, guys, wait. It's so bizarre. Reminiscing, remembering. But every damn time I watched that movie. And we were playing football and his older brother was playing as well. And they're like, you know, like 16 age difference. And he was like, maybe we're eight. And his brother was like, I don't know. Like, I don't know. Maybe he's 11 years. I don't know. He was like, you know, like an 18 year old kid or something like that.
17:11And we were playing. And it was this rule thing. Like, I don't know. It counted. It didn't count. And his brother team won and not him. And he was just sitting on that goal crying. And he had this face, like this contorted face. Like... It's just exactly the same as Morpheus in that scene. Every time I watch, I just remember my friend. I think I know what you're talking about with Morpheus. I think it's the part where Agent Smith is like sort of karate chopping him into the corner. And Morpheus is like... In the corner. Exactly in the corner. It's that face. It's just... It's always... It's so like... Poor Morpheus. And that's interesting. Now, looking at this, they fought each other. Look at that. But Smith is fine.
17:52Smith is pristine. Yeah. How did... I wish he would just bend down and go, how did I beat you? Oh, great. Just add salt to me. And then, you know, Morpheus would like be struggling in the chair trying to punch him like... How dare you use my tactics against me? So, I wonder... A question for you guys. Me, I will save me. Okay, yeah. Thoughts in Morpheus' head. Is it like... I'm gonna get you... I'm gonna get you... You stupid... Smith. Or it's like... I know I failed him. Leo. Leo. Leo, face. You know, like... What's his... Is he worried about the other people?
18:33Is he, you know, saddened by his failure? Or he's like... I'm gonna get you... Like, full of, like... He's balancing between a sort of... Just being quiet. Acceptance of despair. Which would be... Realizing that he is going to die. But he doesn't want to give up the codes because he's very... He's very loyal to the cause. Yeah. That's the first one. And he's also juggling between... Maybe... There might be a chance... Like, a really, really small chance that he might be... You know, rescued. Yeah. But I don't think he's really counting on that. I think he's just thinking, like... Well, I'm gonna die and try my best, but... Yeah, but I'm not gonna give them the codes.
19:13But he wants to be above, you know, like... Going, like... I'm gonna kill you and stuff. It's more like, you know... Obi-Wan. Strike me down. I'll become more powerful. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That kind of thing. Okay. Does it really... Because his face tells me otherwise. He's more, like... Really, like... Despising, like... Well, because he hates him. I guess. I guess. And he doesn't know the machines. He doesn't know the presence of the machines. It's what he's fighting against. But what does he have, you know, like... What else is there for him except to reject and try to resist? Exactly. And this is the best... I'm just asking what you... Yeah. What you guys read from his face, from his acting. That's what I read. Because otherwise, if he struggles, he'll look stupid and he won't accomplish anything. I think this way...
19:54Maybe he's really trying not to think of the access codes. He's like, I better count sheep one, two, three... No, that's the best word. Well, I think most of the serum is probably making him... Well, then later on, he turns into a, you know, a slobbering mess. Oh, yeah. That's what I'm saying. The serum... He's fighting the serum and the serum is like making him feel a lot of weird pain and stuff. He's thinking of Niobe. Low Niobe. I'm putting in the new movies. You muster. Do you want to do the other podcast by yourself? No! Just by yourself, sitting there. Okay. No. It's happening. No. No, no, no, no, no. Just still alone. No, no, no, no, no, no. No tangents.
20:35Nothing. Just straight up facts. Facts. Facts and the fact book. Because that's what I am. That's what I bring to this podcast. You're a fact machine. I just bring facts. Nothing else will really bring facts. I wonder if there's ever a band called Fact Machine. Fact Machine? Yeah, it's a pun on facts machine. Probably. Maybe in the 80s when facts machines were big. With a fact machine. But no, that means like fucked machine. That sounds too close. That probably exists. That's true. That is true. Like a punk rock man. But a fact machine, yeah. That's even a pun on that. So it's like a double pun. So do you want to talk about how at the beginning of the minute Agent Smith walks in and he gets into this direct light?
21:15The fakest light you've ever seen? Yeah, he takes some steps in and then you can see this softbox light just straight on. Can that be our photo? Yeah. It's like a commercial. Have you tried Agent Smith whiskey? And he just pulls it off the frame and just sips like the dinosaur. There we go. There we go. Oh, it could be a whiskey. Oh, like age whiskey. The finest age whiskey from Paul Mazin. Oh, yes, yes. You might have heard of him from his famous champagne made from a California French. What was it? It's a California wine. It's a champagne, yeah. It's a California champagne. But now Paul Mazin has moved into whiskey.
21:59Yeah. It's a California whiskey. It's a California. Morpheus. Morpheus. I wish Orson Welles was alive to be cat. I wish. How could he do Kung Fu? A double. A double wearing a fat suit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Beautiful. Yeah. Yeah. Ma-ha. Ma-ha. Ya-ha. Ya-ha. I mean, at least you have the voice actor. You're supposed to do something? Call in the choppers. Oh, God. I remember. Remember that?
22:39He doesn't do anything? Call in the choppers. My favorite is like where he's going ma-ha, but he's scratching his eye. Yes. It's like he's not even, he's half there. He's just ma-ha. Yeah, that's right. That's the most, yeah, the most painful ma-ha ever. It's just like ma-ha. I'm going to watch that once we're done. Did you know, by the context, we're talking about this commercial that Orson Welles did at a point in his career where he was. Just doing commercials. Doing, yeah, endorsement commercials like for champagnes and who knows what, peanuts and stuff. I have no clue. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Peas. Peas. Sorry, peas.
23:20And he did one for a champagne. Parmesan's California champagne, whatever it was called. And there's footage on YouTube of him just going through the motions and he doesn't care. He doesn't even know the lines. And he doesn't care. He seems like a little tipsy, yeah. Yeah. I think he's probably sad too. And the funniest thing though is at the end, if you look for the real commercial that aired, there's practically none of that footage. It's dubbed over. It's maybe a 10% of that video is from that. I wish they would have used it though. Ma-ha. Just the worst one. Champagne is bottled. Bottled.
24:00Vintage dated and bottled. I love it. As soon as you're going to pour in your champagne. By full mass of salt. Action. What is he doing? Well, it's vintage dated. It's like someone had to almost, you know, take a stick and just poke him a little bit. Yeah, just wake him up. Are we done here? Are we? I don't know. Oh, the podcast. Yeah, I think I'm done. Yeah. It was a lovely time. Yeah. So basically, Aja Smith then talks about how humans view reality and things of this nature. They're evolved.
24:41Just to cover. Just so we cover the whole thing. Honestly, the only thing is that he's... He's becoming more like Morpheus now. He's annoying me with his prophecies and his ideology of things. He basically just said like, you know, human beings define the reality with suffering. Misery. Misery. Yeah. But... Why don't you just be happy? Morpheus, come with me to my computer room where I can show you an algorithm I wrote up myself. Look at this Wikipedia page. See the graph here? Humans. This pixel. Pixel four, five, seven. They procreate. Look at this. What is this? Can you imagine scrolling through Wikipedia with Morpheus? He's like, look, look at this photo. You see this?
25:22What do they do? This dinosaur. Look at different colors. What is this? They evolved from Homo rectus. Look at this thing. Can't even look. Look at him. Look. Bridgony. He's pointing at him. Morpheus, look. Yeah, with his face. Yeah. Look. Look at which... Look. Wait. I can enlarge it. Wait. Yes. It's big. Oh, we got to get better speed here. This style up is loading. Just a second. You see, when you click the picture, it gets bigger. You can see it. A full 256 colors. Yes. Yes. Look. Look at this. Great. And then when we're done, we just hit X. And it's gone. How do we hit X? Log out. Don't forget to log out, boys.
26:02Like a guiding him to the most basic. You don't want me to change your screensaver again? Did you know that humans developed a certain type of commerce can get online and order things through the computers? I ordered a receding hairline product. In fact... Next time we meet, I will have a full... I have a bald and a bald and a bald and a bald. In fact, sometimes me and my colleagues are sent out to be couriers. Ha ha ha. Who ship out things for other people. They mistake us for postman. I am not a postman. I'm sick and tired of being a postman. Talk to Kevin Costner about that one. It's the postman. we're done okay okay
26:43thank you guys for this episode we'll be back next week how lovely weekend I think we have some guests lined up I think yeah we do do we okay alright so next time in February I don't know what next time but yeah same like in general February, March, April November wow and then we're gonna get to by the way we never do this what's the preview for next week preview okay well next week I think we're monologuing right next week there's a tank going like more you know they're hacking into his brain okay what else they're killing him from inside and then he's like it'll take a few times a couple hours for them to get through the yeah it turns from this
