0:00Hello and welcome once again to the Matrix Minute, the podcast where I don't usually host, but apparently now I'm introducing for some reason. So I'm Niall McGowan. You do it, okay. And these... Featured guest Niall McGowan. Yep, that's me. And with him. That's right. And with him is me, Phil, who usually does the beginning but didn't feel like it today. And you are Jacob. Yes, that's me. I'm Jake. Excellent. And Tim. Tim. I'm louder. Yes, you are louder. That's good. As the week progresses, you get louder. As the week progresses, I get louder.
0:40So we have no idea what's going to happen on Friday. And of course, Niall is with us. Yes, thank you so much for doing that intro for me because I was very bored and I liked hearing someone else sing. White. It was a very well done intro, I gotta say now. Stop. It was a good one. Yeah, it was a great intro. You gotta grasp for moments of joy when you can, you know? That's what life's all about. Exactly. Yeah. Exactly. That's a good point. Did you guys notice there's a term that I haven't heard in years that gone out of fashion? But nobody says surfing the web anymore, do they? No surfing, man. It was funny, Tim. I noticed that surfing the web is not that popular. I would even say the net is not popular. Definitely.
1:20The net. There's no more nets. No, it's just the internet. Definitely webmaster is not a... The web is still popular. It's browsing the web, right? Yeah. Why was it called surfing in the beginning? Because people... Surf culture was big in the 90s. I don't know. I think it was... Why? I think it was supposed to be more fun. Isn't it like channel surfing? Isn't that like a thing? Yeah. I think that could be it. I just think they were trying to market it as being more dynamic. Because now people are so used to like, oh, all you're doing is sitting in a chair and clicking a mouse and stuff. But back then, it was like, oh, it's like the Silver Surfer, man. You're like, you're going through the cyberspace. Remember that? Wow. That sounded a little like Randy Savage there.
2:00Yeah. Boonsaw is ready. Oh, you put that up the other day, didn't you? Yeah. Perfect. I did on Facebook. Oh, you noticed. Oh, yeah. Okay. Because he has that... The greatest video on YouTube is Macho Man Randy Savage's promo for WrestleMania 5. where he's just sort of like... Yes. Yes. It's just all stuff like, oh, Cogan, not only are you a hot dog, a prima donna, but you're a liar too, man. In fact, I saw something that biggest last ever heard in my whole life. It's like the veins are just popping out of his... It's awesome. It's like he's forcing the sweat out of his body.
2:41It's just like... It's incredible. Shedding him as his outer soul. Oh, I miss Randy Savage. Oh, it's tragic. You know... Install the Skyrim mod so you can have Randy Savage the dragon. Oh, yeah. Oh, really? Yeah. Just watch the video. It's like that first scene when you're as a prisoner and then the dragon comes and it's just Randy Savage going, oh, yeah. He starts wrecking the whole thing. Awesome. I believe he has. He's got the hat and stuff as well, doesn't he? When he actually lands. Yes, yes, yes. This is glorious. So, before we get into the minute, I got some... Well, it's not like correction of the past, but it's confirmation.
3:24So, I was reading up some interviews with the Wachowskis. And a couple of scenes ago when they're going to unplug Neo, first they kind of have this weird room where they have all the telephones and rigging and then there's that mirror scene, right? Yeah. So, we were talking about that in the scene and I was saying that my assumption was that he was the only one who was seeing it because no one's reacting to the weird mirror. While you were guys saying that that's actually reality bending. And funny enough, I was reading an interview and somebody asked, what exactly is that mirror made of? Was it some stuff they injected, same stuff they injected to Morpheus, you know, in later
4:04scenes when the Agent Smith... Oh, yeah. That's a good question, by the way. I said, was it Silfer? And the Wachowskis answered. The mirror is actually a mirror. When Neo sees it, it's hallucination. But it's the direct result of a pill Morpheus has given to. So, I was right. Suck it. Well done, Tim. Well done. It pays off looking at the details, you know? And you guys were, no, no. It must be real. But do you know who's always number one? Morpheus. Who's number one? Morpheus. So, anyway. Morpheus is the best jumper ever. Yeah. It's a high score. It'll never be beaten. Tim, can you keep my high score? I want to show it to them.
4:45Yeah. So, here we are. Minute 55, I think. Right? Five? We're on five. I keep forgetting the numbers. I am the most unprofessional host ever. What happened to you, Phil? I don't do any work, by the way. Clearly, Phil. You were so excited. Yeah, I'm that lazy. Thank you, Niall. You made Niall. In true. And we're on minute 55, and I'll tell you what happens in minute 55. Disappointed, Mouse asks, what does that mean? Everybody falls the first time, Cypher says. Taken out of the construct, Neo feels a pain in his stomach and touches the inside of his mouth, revealing blood. Morpheus tells him that the body cannot live without the mind, so if you die in the Matrix, you die in the real world.
5:27Later, Trinity gives Neo dinner as he's, you know, sleeping. And that's the end of that minute, and we can talk about it. Does she feed for some? It's like, he feeds it. Eat it, Niall. Offers him food, just puts it on a tray, okay? He doesn't, she doesn't force feed him any meatloaf or something. Just grabs a nose and just like, eat it. Eat, eat this taco, or whatever you call it. It's good for you, you'll grow big and strong. Yeah, the movie is well lit. I love the lighting of the film. That's great. So, yeah. Neo fails. Everyone falls the first time. Mouse is like, oh no, I have my doubts about him being the one. What is this? He's young, naive.
6:08And Cypher gets his first close-up, I think. Is it? Yeah. Every time I see Mouse now as well, my mind constantly goes to, was it Elan Sleazebagano, or whatever his name was? Elan Sleazebagano. Sleazebagano. You don't want to buy some Death Sticks. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You don't want to sell me Death Sticks. I don't want to sell you Death Sticks. I remember when we saw that in episode two, we were like, what? Yeah, yeah, yeah. We couldn't believe it. We couldn't believe it was him. But then, you know, Australian production once again, so there you go. Again, though, it's just because of Home and Away, I was like, that's Irene's kid, what the hell? Yeah, exactly, exactly. It's all flogging cigarettes, what's going on? Yeah.
6:49Always waiting to see one of those early movies with Hugh Jackman, one of these Australian productions, you know? Yeah. Before he did the old X-Men. I think the closest I've seen is like, I think it's the Broadway version of Oklahoma he did is quite readily available. Oh, yes. Yeah, I saw that one too. I mean, the thing is about Hugh Jackman, it's like, he's great in it, so it's like, yeah, you buy into it instantly. He's like, Hugh Jackman's just a great screen presence, whether he's being growly or angry or bright and chipper. Yeah. You buy him instantly. I like the line in Oklahoma. Yeah. Exactly. So, welcome to the Hugh Jackman Minute, where we talk all things Hugh and Jackman.
7:33So, anyway, back here, they get off the, they get unplugged. Neo fails this thing, and you can see that, like, Neo's still not used to the plug as it gets out of the back of his head. That's true, yeah. He's still experiencing pain. And Morpheus looks like he's had a few drinks. And he's a bit drunk, and he's like, how did I beat you again? He knows. He knows. And the number one. I just wonder, how many people do you think, like, they've had to, that they've taken out of the Matrix? Like, how many times has Morpheus had to do this little walkthrough?
8:14We had this conversation. I love it. We still don't know what the answer is. Every guest has asked this. This is amazing. I love it. And it's perfect, because it's exactly what Morpheus is. It's exactly the same context of, like, the movie itself, where it's like, how many times has Morpheus done this? How many times has the guest asked this question? It's perfect. Go on. But no, I'll just say, because it just seems like, like, I've seen people who have had to do, you know, walking tours of, like, haunted attractions and things like that. And you know, like, at the beginning of the, or in a really good shift, they'll be like, ooh, and they'll get really into it. But Morpheus must be like, oh, yeah, your mind makes it real. Or, like, does he have to, like, tank?
8:54Can you do this one? I mean, man. Although I do think that Morpheus kind of gets off and just been mysterious, because it's like, everything he says is so cryptic. So needlessly cryptic all the time. It's all in the middle. It is needlessly cryptic. Well, we've talked about the Morpheus. He enjoys this procedure. He's always refining his process. Yeah. Practices in his little script. He's always, yeah. But again, I don't know, like, you know, even if they do unplug him, I think he has a bit of a break to find the other guy. So it could have been like a year or two since the last time they unplugged anyone. So he's maybe really excited to go through the spiel. But it's all, it's all... You can go, ooh, the Matrix. Welcome to the world of real.
9:36Dust off his journal. Dust off his journal. I just wonder if it's kind of like, you know, because he's so certain Neo is the one. If it's kind of like a life of Brian situation, where it's just like, oh, Neo, you're the one. It's like, I keep telling you, I'm not the one. You are the one. And I should know a fault of you ones, you know? That's perfect, yeah. It's like everything. I'm not the one. I'm just a very naughty boy. Yeah. Then Mouse is like, he thought... You're a naughty boy. It's like, he thought I was the one for like two months as well. And then it just didn't work out. Then he saw my program about the red woman in the red dress and he just shook his head and he's like, search is on. Yeah. So Morpheus wears that necklace, which is cryptic as well.
10:19We don't know anything about this necklace. His accessories are very interesting in this real world of the first Matrix film. Yeah, he's very accessorized. He had a bag. He had a little knife thing. You know, he has this necklace. Who knows what else we'll find in November. Yeah. Morpheus is just like, it's got a little drawer of like all the accessories. Yeah. Trinkets. Trinkets from Zion. From all the past girlfriends he had. Probably. Or no, he may be like every time, you know, one of the ones he unplugs doesn't turn out to be a one. I was going to say, yeah. If something goes bad, he like makes a little trinket. Keeps a memory. Yes. Wow. He takes it off their dead body once they fail the jumping.
10:59He just like slits it off. This is my trinket. After like the 15th time, he's like saying to them like, maybe we should just like make that like a soft fall instead of like just killing all these people. The first five times. It's just like, you're like, I get it, Morpheus. You're trying to put a point, but you know, maybe we could just put plug him back in if they don't make it or use them. You know, they could type stuff. They're good hackers. You know, we don't have to keep killing them. Trink, can we alter the program a little bit? Just a little bit. I actually thought. Is there a slider? Can you just slide it down? I just thought Fishburne was on the fucking call there. It's like, Jesus Christ, he's here. But that was a good impression, man.
11:41Thanks. Thanks. I appreciate that. What are you guys like? Fishburne strikes me. He's one of those actors. Like everyone likes Fishburne, right? No one. There's no one out there going, oh, fucking Lawrence Fishburne. He stinks and I don't like him. Yeah. It's because like I really, I fell hard for him in recent years because I really love Hannibal, the TV iteration of them. And he plays in that. Oh, yeah. He's Jack Crawford. He's like the Scott Glenn character from Silence of the Lambs, et cetera. And like, oh, he's fucking great. And the thing is, he's busting some moves out as well.
12:22Like him, you know, not to get into spoilers because I do recommend the show to everybody because it's amazing. But, you know, there are bits where he has to get into full on fights and he's the guy can still, he can still move. You know, he's just like, I'm sure it's a lot of stunt people as well, but it's still like. How old is he, by the way, now? I didn't never. Must be like. Born in 61. So what does that make him? Wait, wait, wait. But if he's born in 61, that gives him 39, 49. I'm bad at math. Welcome to the math minute. I got it. So I know he must have. He's 57 or something. That's pretty good.
13:02Because he's trimmed back down now as well, because it was a period. Has he? Because he was like super fat. Oh, John Wick too, man. He was like huge. So remember in Predators, when they get to the planet and it's just like, they obviously hired, oh, we got Lawrence Fishburne in to be this badass who survived the Predator planet. And then it's just like, what, has he been eating the Predators or something? Like, why is he so out of shape? Exactly. Probably. We got a Marlon Brando situation here. Yeah. It was funny enough. It was supposed to be like, oh, he can take on all these creatures. And it's just like, I don't know, man. I think he might have killed like one of them a while back and he's just been hiding out since. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe like, you know, when he was on Apocalypse Now, the Marlon Brando spirit left and entered
13:42Lawrence Fishburne. And he's just like slowly, slowly. But did you guys know he's going to be in the Marvel movie? Apparently. He's in the new Ant-Man. So he's DC and Marvel. He's got all the monies. Everyone wants a bit of fishburne. Everyone wants a slice of fishburne. Yeah. Do you ever hear the one story he told from Apocalypse Now that like it's always stayed with me as a great bit of trivia is he's saying like, apparently Fishburne says that the reason he grew up, he became an adult kind of a bit early was because of just having to work with Dennis Hopper. And I remember saying the way he met him was that he was walking up towards Hopper's hotel and all of a sudden the flaming mattress just fell to the ground beside him.
14:26It was chucked out of like the 12th story or something. And that was, of course, Dennis Hopper's room. And then obviously spent many, many, many, many, many weeks working with that man. So it does a number on you, apparently. Apparently it does, man. That Dennis Hopper, dude. Yeah. But anyway, on that bombshell, let's see. What else happens in this minute? Yeah. I don't know. The blood. We got into this. Yeah. We got into this sort of. The blood. I'm sure that there's like an original, like the original concept for this dates back to like, oh, you know, some sort of Eastern philosophy and stuff. But this whole other mind and body connection and, you know, whatever happens in the Matrix happens, you know, affects you in your physical body and stuff as well.
15:06But to me, this is just like, oh, it's like a nightmare on Elm Street. It's just like, oh, you know, if Freddy kills you in your dreams, you die in real life. Right. And it could be literally like, oh, there could be a scene where like Neo goes in and tries to steal Agent Smith's earpiece or something and bring it out. Like, look, he's real. Yeah. Yeah. Although would that work, actually, if you stole Agent Smith's earpiece in the Matrix, because he himself is a construct of the Matrix, would you be able to bring it out? Or would it just be like, it was only ever a digital creation? Oh, yeah. I don't think you can. Maybe if you put it in your mouth. Believe it or not, because it was never physical. It's all digital. Yeah. So. No, it's all digital. It's all digital. You can't put it in your mouth.
15:49I mean, but he comes into a different body. I'd be like. He copies himself like onto a brain. Well, he copies his consciousness into a brain. Yeah. In the sequels, right? Yeah. Where he copies people. Yeah. That's evil. Imagine like. You could see it in his eyes. Like Neo has been asking like, so can you bring things out of the Matrix? And Morpheus has been like, I've been trying to bring out those glasses for like fucking months, man. It's like, you can't do it. That's why I wear them so much when I'm in there. They're possible. Yeah. It's like. That's why I never take them off. The physics is impossible. Yeah. You pull them out and just fall apart. It's like. It's like. Disappear into the real world. But. Wait. How does this work? Why does he have blood in his mouth? Is it? Yeah. I never understood that either. Here's my theory.
16:29My theory is that it doesn't work like that. But I think it's just a visual cue they made. Yeah. Just so you go. Oh, okay. Like what? What? Your body starts bleeding because it hurts. But then it's weird because later. Remember later everyone pukes blood in the real world, which is weird. I mean, to be fair. I don't know why. Like he falls into the ground and then he bounces back up. But he does have a bit of a slam back in. So I guess it's whatever. Like. I mean. Yeah. It makes sense. But how would the. Because it says the body will make it real. So I understand you would feel the pain. That's right. The pain. But I understand the physical reaction. Oh, yeah. Him having actual blood in his mouth. Like how would. How that. Why would the body react to spur blood out? Like. Here's my question. Ready? These are the.
17:09The hard hitting questions of our time. Is. What happens if your arm gets sliced in the matrix? Yeah. Nothing happens. I mean. That's what I'm saying. Is. I don't think. The phantom pain. Copious. That's what happens. That's what happens. And maybe like. Like your body contracts out of fear and adrenaline. And maybe that kind of like squeezes your. Your like organs. And like. It squeezes you a little bit. And then like blood comes out of your mouth. That makes sense. Because blood comes out of his. Such a huge psychological effect. Yeah. That your body doesn't know what to do. So it reacts to this one. I mean. In this case. He could have just bit his lip. You know what I mean? Just out of. But no. But. That would make sense. Later in the movie. They all go. Yeah. They go. When they're dying. And they shake their little shake. And they go.
17:49Yeah. So. Yeah. I guess. Yeah. Yeah. I think it's just like you said. Some kind of a. Visual. Phenomenon or something that happens. Yeah. Because otherwise. Like it would really be weird. If they just stay there. Dead. It's like. They're not breathing. Oh. He's dead. You know. Instead this is more dramatic. When they shake about. Yeah. In the real world. I was. I was thinking. Me watching the film. And not to get into. Spoilers for like. What you guys are going to be covering soon. But like. I was really. It doesn't matter. We don't care. I sometimes shush people. But yeah. But like. Because they do make a whole thing of like. Here are all these characters. Here's Mouse. Here's Cypher. And all these people. And it's just like. 20 minutes from now. All these people are going to be dead.
18:29And it's like. That's a shame. That's a huge shame. It really is. It's kind of like. Yeah. The only one you ever really get attached to. The only one who really. He does survive. Is Tank. It's just like. Yeah. He's cool. He's cool. He makes it. At least. But the rest of them is like. Mouse. Oh. He seems like he could be interesting. Oh. Dead. He's dead. Yeah. Yeah. Totally. It's just sad. It's very sad. Not like this. Yeah. Because you really. For me. Like. I feel like you totally get to. Not to know everyone. But you get to like everyone. Yeah. Yeah. To some degree. Unlike. Sequels. Yeah. Well. Sequels to me. It's just like. Oh yeah. It's. Jada Pinkett Smith. She's in the second one. Right. Or. Am I completely making that up?
19:10I don't know. It's been like 10 years. She's there. She's 100% homegrown. It's her. And then the. The spoon boy. And then. Just riveting cast. Of characters. Wasn't even any spoon boy there. That spoon boy. That was. Unpluggy. The little kid. That's his name. Kid. Kid. He goes like Neo. Neo. And then he's like. Yeah. Strange. Strange times. This is his famous line. What else can we say about this minute? Yeah. What else can you say? Man. Wednesday has the shortest episodes. Wednesday is the cursed day. It's a cursed Wednesday. I guess the thing. It's. You know. It's our. In that minute. 89. It's like. It's our gift. And it's our curse. Where it's like the dullest minutes. Are the ones that'll go on the longest.
19:50Because we've had to reach for content. It's like. Like that episode with. Like we're dreading it coming up. Well. It's just like a week of. Bruce Wayne and Vicky Bale. Sitting. Having soup. In Wayne Manor. And we. Like we. That sounds exciting. Yeah. But we got in our friend. Kit Flemons. And it was actually one of our. Like our best episodes. Because it's just like. We're going to have to. Awesome. Try to fucking spice this thing up. But. Yeah. But the. This is a. I know. A very. A very dry minute. Passive. Passive. Yeah. Especially when you have the. The closet demon. On your podcast. I'm sorry. Yeah. Closet demon isn't very energetic today. Maybe we do get.
20:31The. Neo. Sleeping. In his clothes. Like. Yeah. Just. Marty McFly style. And. What do you. What do you guys think the dinner is there? Like. What. What's the. What do you reckon. Because we don't. We don't get a peek inside that dish. You know. It's. No. Same. Goddamn. Goop. Every day. Exactly. That's it. That's all it is. But you know. Trini's bringing this. Maybe she spiced it up. With a little. Oregano. She's just like. Where would she get oregano? She bring it in her mouth. From the Matrix. She sometimes secretly goes at night. Outside of the Nebuchadnezzar. Has a little guard. What? With some UV lights. In the shit. Yeah. Yeah. With some UV lights. In the. Oh she has like. Fertilizer. Fertilizer. Yeah. There you go. I'm intrigued though. No. This is. This is.
21:11Like Neo. He's got the choice here. He's taken off. The shoes and socks. But he's got the trousers on. Wow. He's got to be a little comfy. This is what we're talking about. Yeah. Well you know. This is the. It's the best. Go on. There are many prophecies in this movie. Right. And I think this is the prophecy. The first prophecy that was fulfilled. The prophecy of Link. Which. Yeah Link. Link? The hero of time. Tank. Sorry. The prophecy of. Not. Yeah. Tank. He says. You'll sleep tonight. Do you see what he's doing? Look at him. Look at him. He is the one. It is. The prophecy has been fulfilled. The prophecy is being fulfilled as we speak.
21:52What I wanted to ask you guys is. Anyway. He took his shoes off. Which is. Is it Niles? Oh go on. Yeah. Yeah. Don't drop Jake anymore. I'm sorry Niles. I wanted to say. Listen. Closet. My question is. What do you guys. This is totally a stupid question. But what do you guys think. Like after done with that conversation. With like your mind makes it real. And it's like. Okay. What happens after that? He says. Fuck you Morpheus. But what do they do? Like. All right. Everyone's in silence. Just setting stuff up. And what. Does Neo go to his room. Or does Neo hang out. Or what. Gosh. I'm going to crush. Does Dozer break out some of his. His crazy. Juice. The juice. His liquor. It could be like. He actually goes into a hole. Oh so it's like. Like a nightmare on Elm Street. Right. Where like.
22:32It's like. Yes. It's relatively like that. Yes. Yes. You know my impression. My impression. My impression is that Morpheus leaves. I think Morpheus is the kind of guy. Who goes into his office. I don't think that he mingles that much. With the crew. I think he leaves and goes to his office. And then the. You know. The plebeian. In this talk. He goes into the office. And then you watch the replay of Neo falling. And just. Laughing his ass off. It's just like. Has it on replay. It's just like. Whoop. Whoop. But can you imagine when an Epiket has a crew like. Good night. Good night. Yeah. Yeah. Or. Or. He has all the footage from all the previous. Ones that failed. And then he's making. Editing a little compilation. He's adding another. And then he has. And then he calls.
23:12Cypher. And he's like. Cypher. It's ready. It's ready. It's five minutes long. Of them falling. The thing is. It's like. The master plan is that. There's so many follow up questions. As well. Just coming. You know. Your mind makes it real. So. Neo could be like. So. If I go in. And I just like. Spend a year in the Matrix. Just like. Eating nothing but blocks of cheese. And smoking cigars. And drinking myself to death. Will I come out. As like. A really unfit. Flabby. Guy. On the verge of death. Or. Like. How far is this. Your mind makes it real. Like. Will I. Physically gain the weight outside. Or what happens there. Like. You know. I'm bleeding now. And. You know. People die later.
23:53So. He's like. Well. There's so many potential followers. So. Morpheus might be like. Yeah. Your mind. Your mind makes it real. See it. And just. Walks away. I don't want to have to deal with all that. You know. That's what I'm saying. I got some videos to edit. So. Morpheus makes his own liquor. Special. He doesn't tell anyone about this. No. It's true. Like. I was always wondering about eating. We're going to talk about that later. I want to. I want to keep it until we go to the steak. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Sorry. Fair enough. This is a preview. This is a preview. Yeah. Let's. It's a thing like. I would do. Seeing as we're seeing. Trinity bringing him his dinner. And it's like. If you can go into the matrix. Anytime you want.
24:34And you know. You see later on. With the steak and stuff. I would. If your mind's making that real. I would just go. I suppose you could do both. You're like. I have to. I have to eat this goop outside. It's. You know. Horrible. For actual sustenance. But I can treat myself. I'll go in. I'll go in. And have like a nice pizza. Or something. Then in the matrix. Exactly. That have the kind of theatricality. Of. Telling myself. I'm having a nice dinner. Basically. You know. Exactly. Because I think. Your body can't create nutrients. No. Yeah. It can in the matrix though. In the matrix. Yes. But. You might feel full. But when you get out of the matrix. You're like. I'm so hungry. Well. But. I guess. But they can just like. No. You'll feel full when you're back. But your body will be deteriorating.
25:14Why don't they just give you. Like. What did you call. What did I call in English. The. You know. The trickling. The water. With the nutrition. The drip. Just plug yourself. Yeah. IV drip. Yeah. Yeah. Give yourself that. Log into a construct. Where you can have any food you want. Any food. You don't have to eat that. Yeah. I was thinking about that. Yeah. And just. Just like eat that. Maybe that's. Maybe that's what Miles has. He has like a little program. After he eats all that goop. He goes like. Oh. Now it's time for dessert. Plugs in it. And just like. Stuffing himself with chocolate. I love it. I'm rough. Oh man. Yeah. I think that's it for a minute. Yeah. Crap. I always mess up. 55. Tune in next time. Tune in on Friday. To see Cypher being a mingy little twat.
