3:27Duolingo. Where he's Duolingoing, asking her if she bought into Morpheus's prophecy speak, but also isn't he asking if she wants to come back to the name of an answer? I don't know. Did you think she was already in love with him? Like when, when they were spying on him or was it when they freed him? She just likes how he buys that cat in the crunch while they were spying on him. Yeah. She's like, oh, oh. Yeah. She's already like, she has a little, uh, like Trinity, what are you doing to the computers? Nothing.

So, so, but this could also, he's being the classic, you know, mean guy where he's got everyone, um, trapped and then he's like, oh, I'm the coolest guy. I don't buy into any of this stuff that you guys are so pathetic and dumb believing in stupid things. He's savoring the moment, right? Of him. Like, oh, I got you all where I want it.

6:11Um, but for us, the audience who's watching this for the first time, I believe, uh, that, um, we are supposed to think that he's asking if she believes he's the one. Yeah. That's, that's pretty much the question. Yeah. And she says, yes. I guess that's important. I don't know. I think, I thought we all kind of thought that everybody on the Namekines are believed. So. Um, sure. But they could have had their doubts, you know, you don't know that. I think it's more to do with the sequence of what happens afterwards, you know, it gives him more, a bigger, bigger punch. You know what he says afterwards. I think it was always, if he's, you know, if he's dead, you know what I mean? And then, yeah. And then it's like, oh yeah, he is the one.

6:53I guess it's the first clue because, you know, coincidentally he can't kill him because of, you know, that, uh, what's his face? Not Tank. Is it Tank? Yeah. Dozer. Dozer died. Yeah. But Tank's alive, you know. So the coincidence, coincidence. He's alive! Yes! You know, he can't die because he's the one, but he won't die because, you know, Tank's arrived. So it's like a, like a sequence. I think that's more meant to portray a story than actually being realistic kind of, you know, situation. In my point of view. I thought it was always that, uh, the reason he's asking her is because, um, as we noticed before, they kind of like somehow understand each other better than other characters do

And, uh, he just wants to finally like ask her what they never talk about, you know, like, cause they never talk about like, oh, you know, like they never talk about directly the whole prophecy stuff. It's usually just always like on the side. And so this way he wants to finally ask her like to be on the same level so she can't escape, you know, like talking her way out of it basically. He wants to hear her, you know, actually say whether she buys it or not. So I always thought. Right. Right. We're taking it low. We're talking. We're taking it low.

What I loved about that is that we thought that when you hear it on the phone before it cuts away to Cypher's closeup, you just hear him going, no. And it's like, no. Yeah. He's like so angry. Reacting to her reaction. But Cypher's really reacting to Tank. Philip and Tank probably. But Philip, can you tell us, is there a term for this technique used in films? Because I think this is the same technique that's used in The Lord of the Rings when the ringwraiths stab the beds. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And you think that the hobbits are in the beds, but they're not. And it tricks you for a moment.

8:57And you go, oh. Yeah, yeah. And you get so scared. And it cuts back to the hobbits safely sleeping. This is, I think, a similar technique. I'm not good at terms of... I should probably brush up on my terms, but I don't know what the term is. I just know that it's the old witcheroo. That's all I can think of. I guess like a misleading or something like that. You know, like in books, it's called the... Ah, shit. What's it called? The Unreliable Narrator. Oh, yeah. You know, when you're halfway through the book, you realize that the person who you're, you know, viewing this from the point of view, they're actually lying to you because they're aware you're reading it. So, you know, a lot of times books use that like to trick you and you realize, oh, half

9:39of these things didn't really happen. He just told you that. So, you know, you have a point of view and then you kind of find out what the actual truth is. So that's... Right, right, right, right. So that the movie could be, you know, like the kind of tricks. Yeah. Misleading. Who knows? So he goes, I don't believe it. And that's what... That's what... He's reacting to Tank instead of what Trinity is saying. Yep. And then we have... Look at him. Look at that poor guy, Tank. He's just like leaning in there. Leading and bleeding. Yeah. So do you guys think that he would unplug Neo and then would he unplug Trinity as well

10:20or would he like give her choice? I think he would totally give her choice. Marry me or die. Be my wife. Eat my steak. And the Matrix. Or die. Yeah. I think once he killed Neo and if Tank was actually dead, there would be like this long dialogue about like... So long. You know, like, look, I can tell them to take you into the Matrix as well. Yep. Immediately when you see Cypher before the blast hits him. Oh, look. It's... It's not Cypher. You know who it is? It's James McAvoy. Yeah, that's the...

If we see him, if we see the stuntman for a few frames, I always wondered why do they never replace it with the actor for Cypher? They do it now. And then once they cut and do more blasts, then cut to the stuntman. True. Why do they keep the whole shot? That makes no sense to me.

And we watched this movie over 50 times at least, probably. I know what I'm saying, but just to ensure that no one catches it. No. What about those sunglasses, Jacob? Exactly. No, I should fix that. Yeah. Well, you can fix it. You can make your own fan cut. Anyway, when Cypher gets blown into these... Cypher gets blown. Yeah. It's a different film. He turns into a different man after he gets blown. Why does he shrink? But I love how he gets blown back. Like, it's just... But he shrinks. I always think he's a shrinking man. I love how he gets destroyed.

13:02It's like a... No! It's like a Honey, I Shrunk the Kids machine. What's going on here? Let's see it. Let's see it. Go back. Look, he's shrinking. Because he's going further back in space and time. It looks like he's shrinking. But I love the way the impact happens. Because it's like gradual. I know it's using strings and cables to pull him back. But... I think that's what it is. It's very linear. It's not like... If that would happen, it would have been a strong push. Oh, I see. I think that's just a wonderful shot. And how Neo just picks it up and he's like, you first. Neo, you coward. No, no. I think he's being polite. Being polite because she's not going to die there. But do you guys know this? How it is to be polite? When to open the doors? I mean, these are old school ways. Oh, right. You're right. I'm sorry. I was thinking so wrong. I thought because when she gets woken up, she would be in more danger.

15:53But I guess not. But I don't think so. You know what the manners are? I mean, the old school ways. Yes, yes, of course. When to open the door? A true moxman never touches a woman. Exactly. And then whatever happens to him is, you know, it's his fate, so to speak. Up to the drawing board. Okay. So instead of, I think it would be meaner if he was like, Trinity stay here and he goes.

17:16I don't know. It just seems a little bit. I mean, I think the matrix is always like, even the Cypher's there being a twat. I mean, I think the matrix is still more dangerous probably. Yeah. It just seems to me like, it just seems to me that it would ensure Trinity to be at least safe. I don't know. I don't know. Okay. Anyway, let's look at the set dressing. We have to just pay attention to the set dressing here because there's one little red orb. That is behind Neo in this wide shot. Oh yeah. The red orb. I have always been looking at that red orb and it looks like a helmet. It reminds me of Alien. That's right. And, but, um, does anyone have any idea? Should I, should I have done research on this?

19:21It's just gone. Yeah. Everybody just exits the movie. Oh yeah. Without, without any, any trace. It's all over. Wow. This is quite a mellow episode. Yeah. It's quite chill. It's okay. You know, sometimes you need a little chill to appreciate it. What else can we add? Chillage in the Matrix Village. Yeah. Well. I don't know. Like, um, we talked about the TV shop. We talked about the hall of the Nebuchadnezzar. We talked about Cypher. We talked about Trinity. We talked about Neo. Trinidad. 20:01However, I do have a little bit from the 1996 script because there's a bit of a difference. Okay. Cure the song. Hi-ya. Very good. Very good. Let us dive right in. Mm. Take it away, boy. Dive us in. Divide. So here's, here's an interesting part where, um, uh, when Cypher goes, how can he be the one if he's dead? Right? And then the script says, this is the 1996 version. He takes hold of the cord. So you get a closeup of him holding the cord that, you know, that behind, behind Neo's, behind Neo's, uh, head.

20:43And then through the cell phone, Trinity, we cut back and she hears an explosion and a scream. And then, and it cuts to Cypher on the ground, his left leg blown off at the knee. Robocop again. And then he rolls over. Yeah. Oh. He rolls over and finds Tank on the ground and the sights of the plasma rifle. So Tank was on the ground as well. Okay. He can't get up. He shot him from the ground. And then, yeah. So Cypher, Tank says a different thing. He says, how's it feel, Cypher? Knowing you're about to die. That's pretty good. And now here's a weird, weird, uh, change. We cut back to Neo and he goes, it's Tank.

21:24He's alive. Great. And then Cypher lunges for Neo's plug just as Tank blows his head off. Oh, Cypher's head? Yep. So more brutal there. Yeah. I don't, I think it will hinder. I mean, maybe if it was like in the eighties, this was made, I think it would be fine. But in the late nineties, I think the less of violence is a good thing for this movie. True. True. Um, and then it just says interior appliance store. Uh, they're both listening, trying to figure out what was happening when the store phone starts to ring. Trinity smiles, uh, tears moistening her eyes as Neo throws his arms around her.

22:05For a moment, it looks as if they might kiss before Trinity lets go. And Trinity goes, wow, we should, we should, we should hurry. And then Neo goes, yeah, right. I think that would have worked. It's fine. Uh, I don't, it maybe on the screen, on the text, it feels very cheesy. Yeah. Yeah. That's, that's, that's always, if you remember guys, this is basically, um, an early version of what happens ish later at the subway. Oh, true. True. That is true. That is true. It's really just, um, just a different place. Yeah. Different place. And more, I guess, intimate because in the subway, it's just talking. Mm. Mm. Well, see that that's the interesting thing about script development.

22:46You can see how these things are just put onto the page. And then after a long process, you start going back to it and figuring out like, oh, this isn't needed here right now. And then you see how it plays against all the other scenes without, you know, that's how drafts work. Sorry. You know, it's also interesting that, um, this, uh, scene actually ends very abruptly. If you think about it, uh, after Cypher gets killed, Trinity gets up from her chair very calmly and then the rest of it plays out super calm. Super calm. Yeah. It's over. Because the danger's gone. It's not even like, oh, it's just like. Oh, yeah. There's none of that.

23:26Like, oh. We did it. He's dead. Yeah. Like, you know, hugging. Mom of the king. There's Neo jumping and there's Neo. And Trinity going, yes. Yes. I love that because that's like such a. For the real world. For the future. A beginner's think. Like, I remember in our movies, like, we have to have like, sort of like celebration or like a confirmation of the characters. He's dead. He's dead. We did it. Or like, we did it. It was great. And it's just like this. Castle of Barons. Castle of Barons. Exactly. And there's like. But not Matrix. Matrix never had that. No, I'm just kidding. We never celebrated anything there. No, no celebration there. That was good. We were serious. No, no. We were serious. We just did one take and those takes were crap.

24:07Those are the final ones. Yep. Yep. Oh, one take is all you need. But that celebration stuff is more for by the book movies where you want it to happen and it happens. Absolutely. I don't know. I feel like those are kind of 90s movies, isn't it? Yeah. Like kids. I always get an impression like. No, we did it. There's always like a triumphant Disney TV show. Yeah. The global change in, how would you say it? Societal or societal mentality or whatever you want to call it. Change the world. Yeah. Yeah. 24:48And now it's sort of like, now it's more dubious. Right. That's good though. It's not a celebration. Yeah, I think that's good. Yeah. I mean, yeah. It's good. It's funny when you, it's funny you mentioned that because when you watch older films and they do that, now when I see them, I kind of go like, that's kind of weird. Yeah. Because like, you know, okay, it makes sense. You know, you're doing something you have to do, but you don't really want to go like, yeah. Yeah. After someone brutally got destroyed. His head's blown off. Yeah. Yeah, we did it. And it's like, you know, you're covered in blood. It's like, yes. Yeah. Yeah. And then they just give a high five. A bloody high five. I mean, look, this is, this all works in its own context, but I think that right now

25:31the, um, the zeitgeist isn't, uh, isn't to celebrate that sort of stuff anymore. Yeah. It was fine then. But now you have to be kind of tongue in cheek or something like a, like a homage or something. I don't think you could really pull that off as a serious thing.
