Minute 118: “Five, maybe six minutes.”
Neo frees himself and backflips onto the platform as the train runs over Smith. Before he can make it out of the subway, Smith walks out of the next train! Meanwhile at the Neb, Squiddies are coming in hot, and Morpheus thinks they only have “Five, maybe six minutes.”

0:00Welcome to the Matrix Minute, a podcast where we minute matrix every minute of the Matrix... Minute... Matrix Minute. Vanille! Hi, welcome back. I am Phil. And you know what? This is 118. And with that being said, officially we just have 10 left. 10! Are you telling me these are the final 10 episodes? Yeah, the final 10 episodes. I think so, yes. Has it been like today's 10 and then the 9, 8? I think so, because we're at 128. We're not doing the credits as everybody knows, so we're just at 128. By the way, we have an official plan for our final... Or should we not reveal that?
0:42Yeah, let's reveal it. It's close. Yeah, reveal it and go around. What we're doing is this, guys and girls. Well, first we're not doing... That's true. This is an official announcement that we're not doing the... Sequels. Sequels. Or the Animatrix. And we hope that someone will bear the torch and carry on. If they want to. Carry on. Poor soul. But what we are doing is... I don't know. Have we decided? Animatrix? Yeah. I don't know, but is it... Yeah, Tim? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think we have to cover it all. We're deciding now. Especially because our dear listeners have stated they would like to also... That's right. Why not? I haven't seen them in a long, long time, so I would like to see them, you know?
1:26Me too. And we can... We're doing that... So, when we're done, I believe our last episode is on a Friday of the film. And then we're going to jump in on Monday and do Animatrix. It's a special. Then on Wednesday, we're going to do the Reloaded special. Mm-hmm. Covering Matrix Reloaded. And Friday will be Revolutions special. Yeah. And we're still undecided if we want after that a final episode. Yeah, maybe a little goodbye. A little slap on the butt. Yeah, a little goodbye. Yeah, a little... Two minutes. Bye-bye. A little Monday goodbye. Yeah, tears and, you know... Yeah. We can do a little... Goodbyes. You know, like... Yeah. ...how we started the podcast. Hey. Yeah. I have an idea. Too much work. Too much work.
2:06Yeah. Can me and Tim say that? Yeah, yeah. You guys said that. I can recall the entire... Tell us what happened. For the last episode. Yeah. Oh, that's true. That's true. Save it for the last. So that's our plan. And it's craziness. I'm so sorry. By the way, Jacob's not, like, smoking a joint or anything. He's just... He just has hiccups. He just sounds like... I'm not Kevin Smith. No. Yeah, man. Did you know that Kevin Smith had a heart attack? Yeah, I know. And did you know that smoking weed saved him? Really? Well, according to him, because he... Because he had a heart attack. And then... Well, smoking weed saved everything. Yeah, that's what I was going to say. Yeah. Miracle drug. And then he was feeling really bad. So they called the doctor and they took him to the ambulance and everything.
2:49Did you watch the video where he explains everything? It's 20 minutes. No, I didn't. I didn't. No, I listened to the smart guest. Oh, you know more then. And then he went... I just saw a Twitter picture and that's it. Yeah. And afterwards, he went to his normal doctor and he was talking about it. And he's like... You know, like the doctor said that when it was doing... You know, he's checking and he was doing all the... Whatever. Unclogging his arteries and stuff like that. He was very calm. You know, stuff like that. And his doctor... That's probably because... Did you smoke weed right before? It's like, yeah. And he's like, man, that could have saved your life. You were so calm. If you were stressed out, you know, that would be more blood pressure and it would just like, you know... Because he got the heart attack on the...
3:30The widows, whatever. Yeah. What it's called. It's like the worst one. So, yeah. So, potentially... The Widowmaker. Widowmaker, yeah. So, potentially, his relaxed being... Well, if you... Yeah, like he did... He put up a YouTube video. It's like 20 minutes long explaining the whole episode. I guess he talked about it more on this podcast, right? A bit, I guess. And basically, the way he recalled the whole thing was that he was... Like, he was super calm. Yeah. Through the whole thing. He's just like, what's going on? What's going on? Okay. Cool. So... I just wanted to say that this is... Okay. As you guys know, we've been going off the rails this whole time. But I think it's okay because it's our last...
4:11Our last throw. So, I mean... Of course. Why would you want to go into the Matrix so fast? And when we kind of ran out of stuff... To... You know, talk about. Of course. Within the scenes because it's all action at this point. And all we can do is comment on the action. Which we will with... With satisfaction and vigor. But at this point, I just wanted to say that... Did you know that Smodcast... Because I listen to it exclusively only while playing Monster Hunter on my 3DS. So, I cannot, like, separate them anymore. So, I'm listening. Interesting. So, when I'm fighting monsters, I just think of Kevin Smith talking about Harry Potter. Emo. Oh, yeah.
4:51The Harry Potter episodes are amazing. Every time Harry Potter comes out and they go watch, see it. And they're just the stupid stuff they make. I think my favorite... I don't know which one... If this was an exclusive Harry Potter one. When they talk about, like, it's the years later. And then... Harry comes to visit Ron and Hermione. And... Like... Ron... So, I think he's drunk or to get divorced or something like that. And then, I have a moment. I think I had to go away from my computer at work. Because I was trying to work and listen to it. And it was just too damn funny. I had to get out, go to a meeting room and just laugh my ass off. The situation... Didn't you say... What? Yeah. Didn't you say that there's some new Emo Kev stuff? Yeah. It's...
5:32He recorded a videotape for his parents sitting... Sitting in front of a window, you know, saying goodbye. And how this is going to change his life. And everything. And, like, recording it for their parents when I was going to the movie school. It's pretty good. It's pretty good. I want to hear that. Because Emo Kev Chronicles were my favorite. That's my favorite smodcast. Nothing ever. Emo Kev. Emo Kev's pretty good. All right. Well... All right. Let's get to it, then. This is our last subway scene. Cool. Finally. We're coming out of the subway. Freaking subway. And I will tell you now what happens... Oh, yeah. Before you tell them.
6:12I was in Prague. And they have a subway there. So it felt... Tell us. Nice. About Prague. You went to Prague. I thought it was London. I saw a photo of you, Tim. It looked like it was London. Yeah. The underground. Quick, quick visit to Prague. My wife's friend was moving to Prague. And she needed stuff to move. So we're like, ah, we'll just drive you there. And we'll spend a weekend there. Just, you know. Good old Prague. It was freezing. It was, like, minus 12. But it was snowy. So it was, like, beautiful. You know, like, Prague is all medieval and stuff like that. So it looked pretty nice. So it was nice and romantic. Yeah. But I saw, you know, used the subway, which we don't have in this silly little city where I live in. So it felt very, like, appropriate. You know, I was like, ah, Matrix. Ah, good, good. There's inevitable ability coming in.
6:54So you've been all together now to the London Tube. Yes. The Prague. Yes. The Berlin Underground. München. Budapest Underground. Yeah. And that's it, right? München. I just have to be in the Lincoln Park underground. Vienna. Oh, yeah, Vienna. Yeah, yeah, Vienna as well. I think Prague maybe is the smallest one. They only have three lines. I think it's the smallest one. Yeah, three lines. And there's, like, one comes from each direction. And then you just meet up in the middle. It's pretty easy. The Budapest one, I think it was okay. It was some of the lines were kind of old. I think so far, well, like, London one is pretty big.
7:38Like, it's pretty wide where it goes. So that's very useful to it. But I think the most organized one was Berlin. It's just super easy to get around. Anyway. Do you know what's weird? Yeah. The Vienna subway, it's very strange how you have to open the doors yourself. At least on some of the lines. That is right, yeah. If you wait there, you just have to go, like, and, like, violently open it. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. You get the little crank. Yeah, yeah. And the four images of the four heroes, the Avengers. They changed it now. We should mention this. You know that, right? A little bit, right? I don't know. I think I saw the new ones, yeah. No, they gender-swapped them. Oh, really?
8:18Yeah. Well, let's give a little context. So when Phil and I sort of grew up as well in Vienna when we were younger, or near Vienna, but anyway, we would take the... Yeah, like five minutes away from Vienna. Yeah, we would take the Vienna public transport system, like trains and trams. U-Bahn. And U-Bahn is the name for the underground subway. And there were these stickers, like, you know, that the government made and put in. It's part of the transit system. On all those public transportation system vehicles inside. Yeah, they were orange, green, blue... And there were a series of icons. There were, like, I think four of them. Yeah, orange, green, blue, and yellow. Or red. Let me look. The Avengers. U-Bahn. What is it called?
8:58U-Bahn what? U-Bahn... Signs. Or it's U-Bahn... Schlaf. Isn't it like... Stickers. And these were, for some reason, famous to us. Wasn't it called, like, U-Bahn handicap or something? Yeah. Any picture, pictorial for a kid is, like... It's just, like, you're drawn to it immediately. Make sure it's Vienna U-Bahn. Oh, yeah. And it's... I'm going to cut this out. It was basically, what? It was, like, four people you're supposed to give... These are the four ones I can explain. So, there's four circles. And in each circle, there's depicted sort of, like, a silhouette-type simple graphic. On the left, we have a pregnant woman.
9:40On the yellow. On the yellow. And then on the orange is a woman with a baby. And then we have Phil's favorite, which is... Violet. The blue one. The pilot. It was supposed to be, like, a... No, the blue one is the... Service man. The blind man. Blind man. That's right. The blue one is the blind man. And the green one. The green one is the pilot. Yes. Yes. But it's... But that's a soldier. The beard. Yeah, it's a little man with a beard. So, for me, it was a pilot. And the blue one was a secret agent. Oh, yeah. We have to link this. People... This is not fair. We have to link that image. And... Oh, you're saying they changed it? And they gender-swapped them. Like, for the new ones, they totally changed the genders for all of us. Oh, there's a pregnant man? This one? Yeah.
10:20Is this one? Yeah. Oh, yeah. It's a man holding a baby, not a woman. Yep. Nice. And there's an old woman now. And the secret agent is now a woman. Yep. And now there's just a pregnant woman. Which reminds me... There's more women than men. The force is female. Okay, what? In Thailand, you have a similar thing, but there's a monk among them. Like a Buddhist monk. Yeah. So, you have to make room for the Buddhist monk. Yeah, yeah. You have to, like... People will, like, bow down to them on the streets. They're, like, the Avengers going around. Because you want, like, the blessing. So, they'll, like, you know, just bow down and then the monk will bless them. I also heard that you shouldn't speak badly about the king.
11:02That's, like, Civil War stuff in Thailand. There's, like... There's different shirts and stuff. So, there's Avengers and there's Civil War. Okay, I got it. Yeah. This is where it's all adding. But, yeah. But monks have their own little stickers. You should give them a seat. Makes sense, I think. All right. And don't expose your, like, lady parts to them. Not, like... Not like that. Why? As if you wanted to in the first place. Okay. I... That sounded wrong. Like, legs or, like... Ankles. Shoulders. Ankles. Yeah, not any of that. Okay. I was gonna say, like... Boobs. Yeah. Anyway, so... What's this minute about? Welcome to Minute 118. I'm sorry if we go off track. Hopefully, we can have a poll if people like us going off track.
11:43If people like people... Oh, we have a survey thing. We do. A long time ago. I linked it to their Twitter. Yeah. I'll see if anyone looked at that. And, you know, we're almost done. But you can still take our survey. Yeah. It's fun. Customer satisfaction. It's just fun to hear from you guys. You know, people know what that is about. It's the end of the fiscal year. Your manager's probably like, oh, fill in your NPS. It's the end of our business here. Exactly. Let's see if we have any replies. I'm going bankrupt. Business is good. We can read them live. Bankrupt. We're filing for bankruptcy. Yep. Chapter three. Which chapter? Three. Is that in America? Remember we talked about bankruptcy once? Was it on this podcast? No, definitely not on this podcast.
12:23I don't think a single listener would be still listening if that whole talk was on this podcast. 20 responses instead of 19. I revealed it. Oh. I like how famous we are. Well. Woof. Now you know. Well, he means 19,000. That's correct. Exactly. I have some new GC reports. Million. Billion. A thousand. So we got a five out of five. That's good. Excellent. Excellent. That's good. If your rating was under five, what would you suggest in order to make it a five? No response. This person was in a hurry. A bang the law. Ooh, look at this one. Length of episodes? I wouldn't mind if they were even longer.
13:03Yes. All right. Well, you got your wish. Oh, you got your wish. Yep. All right. Okay. Let's do 118. Wait, wait. I just do some more. I have the balance of informed banter just fine. I like this person. This guy's great. This one is great. Do we talk over each other too often? No. Really? Yes. You think so? We don't talk over each other? I'm just thinking we don't talk over each other at all. Not me. I don't think so. This is anonymous. I don't think we ever talk over each other. Yeah, this is totally anonymous. Not anonymous. This is anonymous. I agree. I think you who took this. Right? Yeah. You know. You know. I'm not talking over each other. We don't know. But you know. Yeah. You know who you are. We don't know who you are. This is just totally anonymous. But you know who you are. Yeah. Between the times of episodes, which do you prefer? I don't mind either.
13:43This person is the best. We love you. Yeah. And how big a fan of you. You did this, didn't you, Jacob? No. Dude, stop tricking them. I didn't. I seriously didn't. I don't think I ever took a survey of ours. I did once. How big a fan of you. How big a fan are you of The Matrix? Big fan. Oh, okay. And this is awesome. How did you find our podcast? Twitter. It worked. How did that happen? He didn't listen to it yet. He just did the survey on your Twitter. Was Morpheus's hat necessary? No. Well, that's sad. So that was great. This is a great response. That's the only thing I disagree with. His hat was unnecessary. I loved it. The beret. Yes. So anyway, that's a sneak peek into our surveys, which we'll probably never do again.
14:25Well, of course not. We're done. That was a secret. Secret. Revealment. Yeah. All right. What's this episode about? Minute 118. Here we go. Boom! Neo jumps with Neo on top of him and smashes him into the ceiling, somersaulting out of harm's way, leaving Smith at the mercy of the oncoming train. Within a second, the L train smashes into Smith, obliterating him. Neo wins this round and starts to walk away, but the train crashes to a halt. The doors open, and Smith is back, sunglasses and all. Neo starts running. In the neb, Morpheus and Trinity discuss what happens. The alarm bells go off. Go off. And that means only one thing.
15:05Sentinels. Morpheus and Trinity rush into the cockpit. Five, maybe six minutes left. He orders Tank to charge the dreaded EMP. Trinity quickly tells Morpheus they can't use that until he's out. Tension amplifies. Whew! There's more stuff in this minute. Yeah, there's a lot of stuff in this minute. That's why my description was so long. It was long. Neo jumps up. Agent Smith gets caught up in the ceiling, and he knocks him down. They both fall down, and the train is right at them. The train is right there. Question. Why isn't anyone panicking on that train? And why isn't anyone going, oh no, there's people there!
15:46Sure. Well, I mean... It's dark. Yeah, it's dark. Last moment. Doing a scheduled ride. I mean, I don't think... Yeah. I don't think it's even in the front. It's not the last scheduled ride. It's the last time. No, it's doing its scheduled ride. Okay. So I don't think they're planning on people... Fighting each other to the death. Yeah, I don't know how that works. Fighting each other to death. In black suits. I mean, guys, I hate to bring this whole episode down, but you know how in London, they're the suicide guys. Right. So I'm saying like... Yeah, it happens. It's, you know, it happens and I don't think they can't really stop that stuff, really, if you think about it. Yeah. This is like the worst way to kill yourself, though. Yeah, I know. Yeah, I think that's like super dangerous. You know, mind the gap.
16:26I mean, you know, it's like... They're not dangerous. Of course it's dangerous. That's the whole point. But I mean like... But it's not like... It is the most dangerous because like on the train tracks or something like that, you can see from really far away, you know? And people can like stop it. But here, it's like, even if you fall, it's really hard to escape, you know? Really? Because you have to climb up, you know? And it's like in mode of panic. Like you've seen... I've seen a bunch of videos where these assholes on, you know, the subway down to ground push people over at last minute. And, you know, like everyone scrambles trying to get about. Are you serious? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's just like... That's awful. Crazy people. That's horrendous. And they push them there. And it's like... You can see it's like... It's a total scramble. Like people are just, you know, panicking and you try to get them out.
17:06It's not like train tracks. Oh, you just run away, you know? Just in case you may be... But this is subway. You're locked in this little hole and you can't get out. It's dark. The train can't see you. It's going a lot faster than, you know, anything else. So you witnessed this? Well, not in real life. I just saw videos, yeah. Oh, I thought you were saying like you saw... No, no, no, no. ...journeys. But I'm always scared. We're scrambling. I'm never one of those guys. I'm always a little bit away from the edge. I'm just like... I don't want to be pushed. Should I help them? I will observe in the distance. We'll talk about it on a podcast someday. Okay. So the train is coming in.
17:48And then Neo... Smith is trying to... He's kind of like... He's scrambling. Yeah, he's trying to grab Neo, but he can't. He just can't get up fast enough. And then what happens is the string gods return and they go... And they give Neo two strings and Neo grabs both strings and... Yeah, there's a backflip. Lifts himself. That's so weird because I can't think of him just doing this freestyle. I don't understand how they got away with him holding the strings. Why is he holding the strings? I'm sorry. Like this annoys me. Wait, let me see holding the strings. Look, he's clearly holding them. It's the wide shot. Beautiful composition, by the way. As the strings... Oh, that is ridiculous. Do you see it? Yeah, I just noticed that. You never noticed this? No, I never looked at his arms. I guess I just kind of concentrated on his legs.
18:28Like he's holding the strings, literally. Yeah. I wasn't a fan of that. I think that they were thinking, which actually worked clearly with Tim. Well, clearly no one was complaining about it. For many years is that it looks like he's sort of balancing himself with his arms. Right. But look towards the end of the shot. The string is even visible. You see it? That's going to even be clear on the UHD 4K. Yeah, I know. The strings are going to be clearer than daylight. So from what I said last time, I just wanted to say that I love seeing those things in the movies. I don't want them to be erased.
19:08And I love seeing those kind of glitches and bloopers and mistakes. So there you go. I'm fine with that. I agree. Phil loves strings. Neo makes it. And then he's like right at the edge of the subway. Look, see, it's empty. No one even cares. No one's in there. I don't know. There's some people in there. What if there was a crossover? When Smith comes out. There's Blade fighting the vampires as the train goes by. Yeah. When Smithy comes out, there's a bunch of people in there. Oh, I see. You're right. And he's right on the edge. Yeah. He's almost falling. Jacob, let's talk about, because I have no idea. How did they put that train in?
19:49Well. Is it a digital train? Or is it shot separately? Look at where Neo's feet are placed in that shot. They're not on the edge. They're not really on the edge. He's not in danger. He's just freaking out. He's just like, oh, I can't believe I survived this, really. That's like, that's just an emotional response. Yeah. Neither of Phil Osterhaus didn't mention anything about the train. So I'm just very curious. I think there was a train in there, because from the behind the scenes, I've seen. I think so, man. Look, he's really not that. Didn't they have like a whole fake train? It has to be a fake train. There was a train track there already. Like in the salt mines, wherever they filmed this. In the salt mines of Moria.
20:31To the salt mines, brothers. To film The Matrix. Yes. Let me go and touch the ground I'm on and taste it. Day 32. And go, salt. Salt mines. The walls are salty. Salty walls. One of my dreams is to go to the Warner Brothers salt mines. You know what would be funny? I wouldn't be surprised if you emailed them and said, hey, can I come visit? I'm really enthusiastic about that. Sure. Yeah, man. Calm down, Phil. And then Phil just went, so amazing. Because that's where they keep all their film stock and storage from all the movies. Keep it salty. Isn't Lord of the Rings there now? Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Very sad. You can get it. Salt takes away, like it takes away humidity.
21:15Oh, they should put it in a rice mines. Well, too bad you can't mine rice. That's the problem. Yeah. Just like crops of rice, just fields of rice. And then Neo hops away. He hops away to the stairs. Yes, he's kind of slowly jogging. Slowly jogging. Like he started listening to our podcast on his daily commute. Yeah. And I don't know why he has to stop and look, but whatever. Because that's obvious. Make sure. But like, it's obvious that the train is stopping because A, they just knocked over a man. Squished him. And B, obviously Agent Smith is regenerating. Yeah, but why is Neo... Okay, this is stupid movie logic, but Neo has to look back and go...
21:57Yeah, it's a cool dramatic beat. Yeah. Just like, oh no. You gotta have a... You have to have him look eye to eye. You have that connection between... By the way, the name City Rail... And how come no one's afraid of that dead hobo that is now under the train? That's true. By the way, City Rail... I'm so sorry. Let me just finish. I'm so sorry. City Rail is an actual... There's a rail network for Sydney. Sydney Trains is City Rail. Okay. And if you look at the City Rail, it's on the... Oh, it's on the... Okay. So they got a train from Australia to show up there. Amazing. Yeah.
22:38Anyway, I just wanted to mention the people who are in the train. They don't care that... What about the... I'm serious. Like, the guy driving. He just ran over a hobo. Well, that's why he stopped. Yeah. He didn't stop because Agent Smith was there. Because when I was a kid, I always thought Smith stops it. I know. That's what I thought as well. But that doesn't make any damn sense. Of course, they run over a guy. Of course, they're going to stop. Also, it's a stop. So they're going to stop anyway. Is one thing. But I think... I don't think Agent Smith regenerated into the driver. I think he just regenerated into some random dude. Because he comes out in the middle of all the carriers. He's not at the end. Carriers? Carriages.
23:18Oh, yeah. Yeah, I agree. I mean... It's not like... Obviously, you think like, oh, he's stopping the train because he's inside it. But yeah, that doesn't really make sense. How come these other people are so casual? They're not casual. One of them runs away. Did you see? Really? Yeah, yeah. If you look at the shot... They look kind of bored to me. Billy. Well, the one guy who runs away, I think, right? You mean Billy Connolly? Billy Connolly? Billy Connolly is going backwards. He's like, oh my God, what's happening? Well, the woman's listening to her headphones. She's like... Do you know what she's listening to? What?
23:59She's Amber Lamp. Yeah, it's Billy Connolly. He's there. Billy Connolly. Exactly. I can't, guys. Okay, let's get away from this shot scene. Next minute, we're going to have a ball. So he's running up the stairs. No, no. Before we leave the subway, Jacob. What do you want to say? Something from Phil Osterhaus that I never mentioned. Okay. His real name is not Phil. Yeah, his real name is... It took them... I'm kidding. It wasn't a jab against Phil Osterhaus. I just remembered. That was a... We were just joking how Neo... That was a line in... Really close to the... Men in Black. ...to the train and almost looked like... Yeah. Might have got his stuff... Might have gotten a little something. Scratched away. Okay. Some scrappage.
24:41I'm sorry, Hive. I kind of want to watch Men in Black. I always ruin your, like, serious statements. I'm so sorry. I kind of want to watch Men in Black now, to be honest. Let's do Men in Black Minute. No. Okay, so I just wanted to say, so what happens is... Wait, can I say something before you start? Can we do, like, ten in a minute podcasts, but only do the... The first episode. Oh, just the start of a new movie. Welcome to Men in Black Minute. And then it's like, you know, you release the episode and hype it and say, didn't have time to do more. Guys, it's coming. Guys, it's coming. New episode soon. And then we can skip to the last minute.
25:22What a great film. Okay, so I just wanted to say that the time it took to do the subway fight, so this whole sequence here. It was supposed to be five days. Yeah. And how long do you think it took, for real? 28. 12 to 15 days. No, it was awful. So a lot longer. And it was very cold, and everybody got sick. Really? Everybody got a little food. Did you know that I got the fact wrong for the population of London in the last episode? I said between 10 and 15 million. It's actually around 8 million. Oh, that's even better. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway. There's fewer people to wait in line at Starbucks. And that's it. Now we can leave the subway as Neo is running away from the subway.
26:04Rejoice, oh, people. We're out of the subway. We're back at the neb. As the Canadians would say, out of the subway. Morpheus is concerned looking at the code. Yeah, we're back on the neb. Morpheus is looking at the code. They're all looking at the code, and Tim's like, I hate it. Yeah. They need to stop looking at the code. See, there's a little, there's Tim out of focus in the background. Code looking. Just shaking his head. The code lookers. Disapproving. Oh, God. But then, yeah, and then there's Trinity, and Morpheus is there, and he has a necklace that we never hear about. All those accessories. Morpheus looks so concerned. He does accessorize every time he has an indie outfit. Yeah. Hats. Shivs. Number one in command. He has the privileges.
26:45Yeah. What if he had, like, had, like, a rapier on him? Cipher. Yeah. It just comes in with a halibut. Ah, shit. What is that thing called? The big... Halibut. The hat? Like, the Cap'n Crunch hat? No, no, no. The big, the big axe. That's a bicorne. The big axe on the long stick that you can smash with. Halibut? Halibut? No. I ain't no halibut girl. I don't either. I don't know what you're talking about. This thing. The medieval thing. Halibut. Is it the big axe with the spear in the back? Yes. The spear and the... Yeah. What is that called? I don't know. Facts.
27:25Anyway, this... Please tweet at Tim. Anyway, this wide shot of them three looking at the monitors is so TV-ish. It's not my favorite shot. No. It's like, you know... Join the Nebuchadnezzar. Yeah. Yeah. Ba-ba-ba-bum. Ba-ba-bum. Ba-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. In Slovak it's called Halabatrnja, but I don't know. Sorry. Yeah, okay. Jacob. Is that like a mace? I just thought... No, no, no. A mace is... A hubbard. A halberd? What the hell? L. Ron Hubbard? Did you know Tom Cruise is exiting Scientology? Seriously? Because of his daughter. Is he really? Yeah. No way. Because of his daughter. Wow. What does that mean?
28:05For his daughter. I don't know. For Honor. That was the... What was it called? The press release. Yeah. For my daughter. That's interesting. He was a big Scientologist guy. Yeah. Anyway, can we go back to... Yeah. I just had an idea. What if there was a Matrix TV series? What's going to happen now? That you mentioned it? Oh, I see. Yeah, that's talking about the... Halberd. Halberd? How do you seem to pronounce that? Halberd. I don't know. I'm on Halberd. Halberd. Halberd. Okay. The one on the right is disgusting. This is weird. This is the worst for podcasting. Me talking about something no one will ever see. Yeah. Put it in the link dump. It's just a pointy axe. You can stab and...
28:46But the thing is we forget to link dump. Or you can put flowers on it if you have a wedding. You know? I won't forget because I'm going to edit this afterwards. You forgot many links on this podcast. And don't let anyone out except me. Shut up. Did we mention something you wanted to link at the beginning of the episode? I had the Austrian thing. Yeah. Okay. Anyway, so Tim, what do you think of a Matrix TV series? I don't really care for any sort of continuation of the universe. I mean, I don't think there's much there. I mean, anytime we had an idea, it kind of went silly.
29:26I don't know. I think maybe the sequels are a good indicator that if you go a bit too deep with this, that it can't really go anywhere. Maybe if it was something like the Animatrix, if it was an anthology, every episode told a different story. Where you don't kind of get into the world. When the world building is very limited, it's not like a main plot or figuring out more history behind the Matrix. It's more a personal story within the universe. And maybe like one or two things gets developed. You know, maybe like some kind of, you learn a bit more. I think that would be nice. But like a main storyline of a new year or something like that, I think that would kind of crumble.
30:10Okay. I think it's possible though. I think, I had never thought of it as anything other than an anthology. So, you know. Stuff that happens in the Matrix, out of the Matrix. You know, I wouldn't mind seeing a whole episode that's 46 minutes long just in the real world. And then like going up to the surface and seeing stuff. Speaking of which, when you mentioned in and out of the Matrix, it always reminds me that, remember we saw a long time ago, like this horrible Chinese translations. And there was one time like Christmas lights and it said, for indoor and outdoor use only. This is my favorite. I'll never forget that as long as I live. I'll be telling my grandchildren that.
30:52It's passive aggressive, like absolutism. I just love it because when you think about it, like when you really sit and think about it. That's so true. Indoor and outdoor use only. That's pretty much all there is. It's an absolute statement. It's like it's saying, you know. It's absolutely, yeah. There's nothing else. There's no third way. You can only live by day or by night. It's great. It's true. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's true. Okay. Well, let's keep going with this. So, the TV show is done. And then they're looking at their computers. Proxity warning. And what font is that that says proximity? Acura. Yeah? Yeah. O-C-R-A. Acura of time. Yeah. That's the font.
31:33And it says proximity warning. And he's looking at two tubes. What are these two tubes, Jacob? That's the ship's butthole tingling. That's Morpheus's blood vessels. Danger, danger, danger. I don't know. Let's see. And tank loads. But this is why we do a podcast, so we can talk about these little details. That's the whole point. I know, but what's there to say about proximity warning? There's a screen. Well, there's two bars. Look at them. It's the hallways. Oh, I know what it is. You have little numbers there. There's like four dots that keep blinking on it. Well, look, you have numbers. There's 400,000. There's 4,000 leagues under the sea. Some kind of measurement of warning. Yeah, 3,000, 4,000. Maybe it's like a meter.
32:14So, guys. How much warning? I just remembered. I just remembered. Continuing where I was talking about all the DVD extras from last episode. The Alien quadrilogy, as it's called, or archive collection or whatever. It has so many bonus materials that it even has all the on-screen display stuff. Oh, you can look at the design of the UI of the stuff? Yeah, in the movie. The one that's being used in the movie. So, you remember in Aliens where they're talking to Ripley in that office at the beginning? And she's like, we've been in this office for three whole hours. Aliens. That's... I'm out of this conversation.
32:56You can kiss all that goodbye. Oh, yeah, of course. I know that. Yeah, what about it? The projector in the background. You can see the whole thing by itself. And too bad The Matrix doesn't have that. That's quality stuff. You have everything. Every asset you can just check. Yeah. Every asset. They have that for The Matrix Reloaded, but, you know, not as exciting. Yeah, that's the worst, right? It's like the movie you want to see this stuff from. It's like, we have the Reloaded Reloaded Reloaded Reloaded. Yeah. Yeah. Or as Keanu Reeves likes to call it, Matrix Reloaded Relations. Yeah. Yeah. Do you guys remember that? Did we ever mention that in Five Days? Yeah, I think we did. Well, I forgot, so. It's okay. You know, we're old. We're old. We're 118. Come on. It's true.
33:36It's true. Can we get away from this proximity? Okay, fine. Fine. And then Tank turns around, and he's like, oh, no. What does he say? Oh, shit. What does he say? Oh, shit. And then his little thing wiggles. Exciting times. Very exciting times. And his earpiece, not earpiece, what's it called? His mouthpiece. His mic. Yeah, mouthpiece. It wiggles. Yeah, it wiggles. You guys were talking about that. It wiggles. Oh, yeah. It's funny. It's a little, you know, proximity wiggle. It's great. I never notice it. He's got a little nick on his. And then immediately, the lights are shining in the background as well. There's like flickering lights. It's a danger zone. Well, the ship, that's what the proximity warning is like.
34:18The lights are not working. Yeah. Change your light bulb. Change the lights. Change your lights. And Morpheus looks like he's going to have to poop. He has to go so bad. And it's like number one and number two. That's the cutback there. He's running. He's running. And now. So, I can talk about this now. So, there's this shot. It's like a wide shot. Sort of a 90 degree shot, right? Yeah. It's like Star Wars. Yeah. Yeah. Like Star Wars when Luke and Han go up to the ladders. Yeah. The gunning turrets and stuff. And Morpheus and Trinity are going up these ladders. And how do I describe this? So, the floor is metal.
34:59It's like a metal rack floor. Mesh, right? Is that what you call it? Yeah. Sure. It's not really mesh. Great. Great. Yeah. Great. Yep. Yeah. Okay. That's the word. Grid. Grid. Thank you. Great. Grid. Mesh. Neanderthals try to explain things. She's great. Grid. Yes. Great. Great. Just throw words that sound similar. And then there's sort of like a cutout for where you can go up on the ladder. Little hole. Little hole. And when Morpheus is going up, I was always afraid he's going to hit his back. I never noticed that, Jacob. Yeah. It's like, oh, look how. Wow. Oh, yeah. That is true. They have to wiggle their way up. I'm pretty sure maybe. You could easily be not careful and hit your back and be like, oh, oh. Yeah. No one likes it when you scrape your back.
35:40Oh, scraping your back is the pain. The pain. So I'm surprised how good they are at this. Trinity's even better. Look, she has a lot of space. Yeah. That's because she's not been eating all those aminos. Look at this shot. I was in the body. I was in the body. Now, as we're going through the ship here and Morpheus is jogging into the cockpit and it's a shot of Morpheus coming towards us, the camera. And we see this nice little corridor, right? With all those tubes, those big tubes. Dude, this is the room from Revolutions. What? Remember Revolutions where he fights? It's a different ship, but yeah. The same. Oh, yeah. You're right.
36:20Thanks for that. Sorry. Yeah. Spoiler. The Nebuchadnezzar meets its end at the end of Matrix Revolutions. What? I mean, Reloaded, not Revolutions. Oh, yeah. When Neo stops at Pentacles. Yeah. And Morpheus had a dream. Yeah. Then he quotes Les Miserables. Really? Yeah. I've dreamed a dream and now the dream has gone from me. No way. That's Reloaded and Miserables. Yeah. That's not the one. Oh, yeah. The French. And so as you're walking, I just wanted to mention production design once again. If you go back to the corridor. The thing about it is that it's funny when you look at these things without proper lighting.
37:03And lighting and production design have to go hand in hand because there's, I saw photos of the Nostromo because of those, that wonderful Alien Blu-ray edition that I have. They have so many photos and they're all high res and they're nice. And with just no lights, like just random, just regular old lighting, it looks very kind simple because, you know, the texture comes from the shadows and the way you position the lights. And in this case, it's just like sewage pipes that they just welded around together and just added some extra stuff on. But the light makes it look like something that has richness of detail.
37:45Yeah. On that note, there's a strobe light going off as Morpheus is jogging beneath the things. And if you stop at the strobe light going off. Wow, I never noticed that. It, it, um, it looks like a Doctor Who set because the light is too, too strong and it looks like... Let's see it. Let's see it. No, as he's jogging, Jacob. Oh. If you catch it on a strong light, it looks a Doctor Who set. It does look like a Doctor Who set. And that's... Can we get to the cockpit? They're in the cockpit now. They're in. Yay, good for them.
38:28And then they look into the, the, um... Hologram. Hologram. Yeah. Thing. And they see five Sentinels. Look at the squiddies. Previous five ones. There you go. Symbolism. Symbolism. If the ghosts of the previous... One for Eddie. One for... Oh no, Eddie's dead. Eddie's nothing. He was the one in five. He wasn't. But that's good. Because it's like... He was just someone that Morpheus thought was the one. Sorry, I'm mixing the two up. Yeah. Oh, I thought... What'd you say, Tim? No, I just, you know... I wanted to be useful and helpful, but... I'm just... I'm just... I just suck. Um, I just wanted to say, like, uh... You know, like, storytelling. You got... You first show the squiddies.
39:09There's one and two. And then when the people are... You know what the squiddies can do, then you're like... Ah, now there's five of them, you know. Yeah, they're coming. You know, you gotta show. Imagine that if you never see them and they're just like... Oh, we gotta watch out for squiddies. What are squiddies, man? I love that, though, in films. When you don't see the enemy and you're like... You have to show audiences what they're up against. You know what would that be, though, in The Matrix, honestly? Like, because at the end you could just have... What does that mean? That means... That's the squiddy coming in. Hello! That's the sound of the squiddy. Dong, dong, dong. Trying to bust through the neb. Okay. And then the people in the neb go... I can imagine all of them going... Yeah.
39:49Like, Trinity. What if it was underwhelming? If it was, like, explained... Oh, the squiddy has many arms and many eyes. And you're, like, imagining... And the moment is, like, just like the ones that come out of my eyes. Oh, yeah. I have to draw that. I keep forgetting. Anyway, the cockpit is cool. It's nice. I think they're stationary at the moment. Are they? They're not moving, are they? Nope. I can't tell. The outside is very... No, they have to be connected to Neo. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. True. They can't broadcast moving because their technology sucks. Right. So that means that they were always in that pipe? Yep. Since we left them? I think so. Yep. They're just, like, stuck there. What a sad existence. Sewage pipes.
40:30What can you do? Stinky sewage pipes. It's the smell. They're gonna find some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It's the smell. So... Man, you guys are really out of it today, aren't you? Ah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You pick up the... Well, Morpheus says, Morpheus says five, maybe six minutes. It's true. He does say that. How much time left? And you know what? He's right. Literal five, six minutes. Within our next five minutes, we'll be done with the fight. Morpheus is a sage. He calculated correctly. Sage. So he's like, Tank, charge the UMP. She's like, you can't use that until he's out. I know, Trinity. I know.
41:12He's my little baby. I won't let him die. So the Sentinels are coming in. Neo is running away from Agent Smith. Danger on both sides. Danger. What will happen next? What will happen? What will happen? Find out next time on the Matrix Minute. Oh, we'll be done? Next time. We'll see you on Friday, guys. No.
