Yeah, and we're going to talk about Minute 32. So hit us off, Philip. Okay. Okay. Neo's touch... Yes, Neo's touch. No, no, let's do it again. His touch was firm.
0:40Should I keep... The glass shriveled beneath the fingers, the mighty fingers of the one. Neo's touch of the fixed mirror leaves a thick chrome liquid residue on his fingertips, and the chrome goo slowly expands into his arm, or onto his arm, around his arm, and Neo is scared. The rest of the crew keep messing around with their computer things, and Morpheus sternly gives strange commands. Apok finally yells, Lock! I got him! And as the ice-cold goo circles around Neo's mouth, engulfing him, and Morpheus says, Now, Tank! Now! And Neo yells, Ah! Goo goes all the way down his mouth. Fake smack. Ha ha ha ha ha! I can't believe this.
1:22There's no other way to do it! Neo, do you feel your nips are chilled? Thick nipples. What is this? Welcome back, everybody. I sure hope this was a weekend. The goo matrix. Yeah. Okay, I'm watching. Well, I just wanted to say that this is it. This is the moment of death and rebirth. Yes. In this case, it's just death, because we don't see what happens later. Yeah, but what's the point of that if we're going to see more later? Okay. Some babies are stillborn. Okay. On that dark note, um... It was dark. I'm sorry. I'm tired.
2:02It's been a long week. Many hours of work. What I wanted to say was... A tired man. The first thing that we see is, you know, the goo leaving itself on Neo's finger. Yeah, the goo continues. But then, but Morpheus says the big thing that's, you know, a very quoted line, which is, you know, Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? Well, what if you were unable to wake from that dream? How could you tell the difference between the dream world and the real world? Cue talking about lucid dreaming. Here we go. This is going to be an hour and a half long podcast, Jake and Tim. Five minutes. Okay, good. We will be short. Because I have no idea what you're talking about. Go on. I just wanted to say that this reminded me of him speaking about the dreams of our...
2:43I think we talked about it even on this podcast and the other podcast. I'm not going to talk about it. Probably. We're not going to talk about it again, but we're going to mention an element of lucid dreaming, which is represented here. Yes. Which is? Which is the mirrors. Now, if you are practicing lucid dreaming, which me and Jake did. Not together, but sort of... A long time ago. A long time ago. Together like Inception. Yeah, yeah. We were holding hands as dreaming. But when you read about the sort of characteristics of the dream that you need to recognize so you know you're dreaming, so you can sort of wake yourself, wake your consciousness within your dreams so you can control it. One of the elements, they said mirrors in dreams don't work properly. And sometimes it can have a sort of nightmarish effect.
3:23You know, basically in reality when you look in a mirror you see your face or whatever the reflection is. But in your dream, it kind of doesn't render well. And I have to say, with some of the effects that we see here, Neo looking in the mirror, like this strange wobbliness and it's kind of skewed. You know, in the dreams it can be a bit more scary. You can see different faces. It can be sort of transformed, you know, like to a different dimension. So it's kind of spooky. But what we're saying the previous episode that, you know, this could be very well the whole mirror sequence could be from Neo's point of reality because they're kind of tracking him and they're kind of disconnecting him. So this could be kind of the dream world kind of messing up and that whole sequence that
4:08we see here, the goo kind of transforming onto him and him suffering. That could just be a visual representation. Yeah. What he feels from his perspective. And the other guys just see him twitching on the chair, to be honest, you know. Yeah. But a funny thing about what I will mention about lucid dreamings is when we did the lucid dreamings and later on or then I would explain it to people and they say like, why would you do that, you know, like in dreams? And funny enough, the sort of example of like what you could do or why you do it, you would usually say the matrix. Like imagine your dream is like the matrix, but instead of following your line like Neo
4:50does, you know. You follow your dreams. You follow your dreams. You're the autopilot. You are in control and you can do whatever you want because it's not a real world and it's not bound by rules of computers or anything like that. It's up to your imagination. Man, that's the closest you can get to the matrix until they do some really crazy simulations a couple dozen years down the line. That is so true. So, um, what I wanted to say was what is happening exactly? We, we obviously know what's happening story-wise and metaphorically and so on and so forth, but the time he's going into a rest, they're saying like he's actually. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's some crazy stuff that's going on. Things going on where his, I guess his body in the plant is going through some struggles.
5:34I mean, later on in the matrix we learned that, you know, if you unplug someone while he hasn't been sort of disconnected, um, from the matrix you kind of die. So I think this might be like they have to kind of sink it exactly. They have to find him and disconnect them at the same time so they don't lose him, you know? Yeah, that makes sense. Well, this is kind of making Neo feel like something weird is happening so it wouldn't be a stretch for the mind to be able to jump back into the other. Oh, nice. Yeah. Um, like for example, like stuff that they're saying is, um, Trinity says, it's going into replication. Hmm. What does that mean? What's going into replication? What does replication mean in the sense? Then Marcus is like, Apoc? And Apoc goes, still nothing. And he's just sitting there.
6:15Yeah, let's talk about that. That's so weird. So they're still searching for the signal. Yes. They haven't even found the signal yet. They haven't found his pod. Still nothing. Well, that's the question. Then why did they then not wait a little bit? Like, Neo, let's wait here. And they sit down for 20 minutes. Apoc, anything? Yeah. No. No. Okay. So Neo, what do you do? Yeah. What you've been hacking? I don't know. What did you eat? Do you like Compton Crunch? Maybe it's like, the pill is like, you know, like when you eat a pill, when you eat a pill, you know, it doesn't start a straight effect. Maybe it needs to be dissolved, you know, and then go into the bloodstream. Maybe that's the kind of... I don't know, guys. I kind of think that everyone's seeing this silver stuff.
6:55Sure. Because no one's reacting to it. It seems way too... Well, I don't know. Look, Morphe's perfectly timed talking to Neo about dreaming. They can see something's problematic with Neo. Neo seems to be real, blah, blah. I don't know. I think they're seeing this. I'm convinced they're not seeing it because no one's reacting to it. And that's what I'm sticking to. Okay. But here's some theories. Here's some theories. If you want some theories. I'm interested. I'm just speaking intuitively, not argumentatively. Another idea here is that Neo, when he's saying, it's cold, it's cold. It's the liquid trying to make his virtual body seem like it's dead. So the Matrix releases Neo's body and calls it the big crab robot later on.
7:38Cool. That's pretty good. So it's like waking it up again. So it's tricking the Matrix into blue, making it feel like Neo is probably dead in the Matrix. And then so that's why the robot comes in later on and disconnects him. That makes a lot of sense. And drops him into the sewers like poop. Because he's like, you're dead. You are poop. No more. Go away. Also, the liquid is in a different sort of shutter speed than the actual. Yeah, I was going to say, man, that bothered me for so many years. Oh, but there's also that. Okay, here we go. There's also this one shot where Neo, like his hand, it's just a close-up of Neo looking and then the hand rises up and you can see the liquid oozing down into his palm.
8:19Yes. That is a blue-screened hand. It's not really in the frame. Oh, okay. In front of his face, you mean? That one? So, yeah. So just a bit of a, you know, it's Marty McFly moment here where, you know, when Marty sees his hand disappear. I think I'm going to make a GIF of that and put them together. You should. Just, you know, that's... So what about, how about that amazing UI of the barcode slamming down? Yeah, locked. I got him. Just like he purchased cartons. Got him. I think there's a lot of cool shots in here, like Morpheus pressing the button like a madman on the phone. Look at him. He just goes, bam. Well, Morpheus, you know, he keeps it cool, but then when, you know, push comes to shove,
9:04he's getting around. And then Trinity says, you know, Trinity says, we've got fibrillation. That, well, that fibrillation, that's, isn't that the defibrillator? Isn't that the one, the magnets? Morpheus says, Apoc location. Targeting almost there. It's going into a rest, says Trinity. And then Apoc says, lock. I've got him. I have to say. Now, Tank. Now. What does Tank do? Yeah, what does Tank do? I think he's doing it from the... I think it's like a combination. They're doing it from the virtual world, which wouldn't make sense at all. You don't have to hack anything from inside the virtual world. And then Tank's like controlling from the matrix world because it like tapped into the matrix, whatever system, you know, in the real world. I still, I'm sticking to my theory that maybe you do have to hack things within the virtual
9:48world because it's similar to encryption, you know, where, where Tank just can't get in through that end. He can only do stuff prior to entering the matrix. Oh no, that doesn't make sense because they can bring stuff into the matrix through the constant. Well, think about this because the matrix, I know, you know, later on Neo sees it as code and stuff like that. And that makes perfect sense visually. But what they're seeing here is the output. It is the generated, you know, like when your code is already, you know, used, you can't kind of, to be honest, maybe if it works in a sort of like a system where you have like a database and you can sort of insert stuff like that. So they would go there and then pretend to be, you know, some kind of input.
10:31It's instead of, you know, like hack, like, oh, it's like, so the input is input is, uh, I don't know. I don't know. It depends. Like, cause everything's controlled from the brains of the individuals. So, and that's connected to the, whatever the mainframe is. So I don't know how being in the user interface, you know, the visual stuff, how would that help? But it definitely looks cool as hell, you know, like, like, like the, like the, uh, cell phones, like just invest in some Bluetooth, you know, headphones instead of turning on the phone every time you're in trouble. What I can say. Be connected all the time. Is there, is an amazing reflection of Morpheus in Neo's shiny new glossy hand?
11:12Oh yes, there's a great one. Maybe that's going to be the screenshot. That's going to be the screenshot. You have to screen grab that one. That's beautiful. Is it? It's a 20 seconds. 20 seconds of the minute. 20. Oh, okay. Wait, let me see. Neo. I'm here for you, Neo. No matter what. Oh, look at that. Look at that face. And then his Neo's face afterwards. Yeah. He's being consumed by 90s Chrome CG. Yeah. 90s Chrome CG. You know, for music videos. What do you think about this Chrome CG? Or from aliens. Usually like aliens can be like that as well. Some like liquidy aliens. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, yeah. In the 90s, you know, CG was just turning into the crazy rave awesomeness. Do you think Chrome was a good choice? Yes. I guess. Because it's reflective. Because it's a mirror, yeah.
11:53And then we get into, after they locked him in and everything, I wish I could hear more theories about that if someone wants to post it on our Facebook group. We could talk about it more. Yeah, come to our Facebook group. Wait, wait, wait. Wait, wait. Do you hear that? It's the desert of the real. Okay, go ahead. Neo, like the thing comes into his mouth. God, Morgay. Sorry, sorry. And this is a cool part because the camera goes into like the throat and the mouth. And he goes, the sound effect. I love that sound effect. The sound effect, I have to say, is one of the best sound effects. Where it turns from like super high bit rate to like really low bit rate.
12:35To like an MP3 that you encoded about 10 times. And it's like bit rate of like three. Like one. Yeah. Before we go to that, it's funny. I always thought there's like a little, well, maybe it's the truth. I don't know. Before it goes into his mouth, you have Apoc. And he's like at this little targeting system on the right. And he's like locked it. Like, you know, like when Luke is doing the thing. And then it switches to a monitor on the left. Is that Neo's throat? Or is that the sewer system or the system where he's connected? What the hell is that? I have no idea. I always thought when I was watching before, like that's his throat. And they're looking at a 3D projection. On the right, you mean? On the left.
13:15On the left. It's before that. It's before that. Before locking? Yeah. It's after locking. It's his throat. I always thought it was his ear for some reason. Is it the throat? It doesn't look like a throat. It looks like, you see, there's like a sewer system. I think that's like where they're looking at him. Where they're locking him in the real world. I don't know. Beats me. Whatever it is, it's something. And then the barcode comes in. He's like, great. As I said, the barcode. Yeah. Amazing. Anything else? No. No. The CG is pretty straightforward. There's nothing special. Let's say there's no fancy techniques used here. Nope. Except for high-tech computer graphics. But this is the end of our journey.
13:55Our journey. Free. Yeah. In the first dimension. Now we're going into a new dimension of multifaceted concepts that we haven't known until after this. By the way, I wanted to mention. In the story. You know how some movies. Yeah. Think about it. Think about it this way. It's the call to action. So far in the film. We've only been. Oh, guys. So far in the film. We've been only following Neo. Yeah. Well, no. No. Like, you know how some movies. It's the theory. Follow the film. Like, you know how some movies. Like, Lord of the Rings, right? Lord of the Rings is the first Fellowship of the Ring. We follow. Just the Fellowship and Frodo. Just the Fellowship. Frodo. And we follow them for a while. And then when it diverges, then it goes nuts.
14:36Because it has so many different storylines, right? It goes even more nuts than later. I want to say, yeah. It just goes crazy and doesn't want to end. I'm trying to remember in this movie, so far, relatively speaking, we've been only following Neo. But then after this, we're going to get more into cutting. A little bit, yeah. A little bit. Just a tiny bit. Particularly Cypher. Yeah. Right. Cypher and then we cut Morpheus. And a little bit of Agent Smith, too. Well, some Agent Smith. Like I said, Agent Smith. So this movie is pretty straightforward when it comes to the intercutting business. This is pretty much following. I think that's, we talked about this before, but that's definitely one of its strengths. And definitely one of the major elements why it made it so successful. Even though it has a lot of crazy things that people haven't seen before.
15:20A lot of, you know. There's no multiple storylines here. It's one clear storyline. It's one clear storyline. A lot of movies go back and forth. Even though, like, the behind this, you know, not the behind stuff, the, I guess the backstory is super complicated. For some people who are not familiar with the sort of concepts of, you know, virtual reality and stuff like that. But the story is super simple, you know. And it's just a hero's journey. And you can follow it. And then, you know, there's not too much of the complicated stuff. And that's why probably it was accepted quite well in the, you know, in the wide audience. It was embraced. Yes. All right. I think that's pretty much it. Well, not unless you want to go to 1996 and listen to some alternate dialogue.
16:01Oh, you got to give us some. You got to give us some of that juicy. Give us some juicy bits. All right. So last time, last time we. Sorry. We need a 1996 jingle. Yes. For the Matrix. Yes. Yes. Let's do it. Come on. We got to make one. We have to do that. We have to remake like a nice 90s pop funk version of the Matrix. Yeah. My only request is that it's five seconds long. Here we go. No longer than five seconds. Because I really don't like it when people make jingles. No, the jingle would be at most 15 seconds. No, five. The Matrix. Five. Yeah, just five seconds. Make it five. And that's all you need. Anyway, 1996 time. So last time we left off, Morpheus.
16:43No, Neo recognizes Apoc. And he goes, Apoc, you wrote the Four Horsemen virus. Of course. And Apoc's like, that's right. So Morpheus comes in before. This is before the window. I mean, the window. The window to reality. This is before the mirror. Morpheus goes, Neo, I imagine you know something about virtual reality. No. Why did it always go so cheesy? Neo sits and Trinity begins gently fixing white electrode discs to his head, arms, and the back of his neck. And Neo goes, a little. Morpheus goes, tell me. Second life endeavors. Tell me about it. Oh, that's great. Neo goes, essentially it's a hardware system that uses an apparatus.
17:27No. Headgear, gloves, and whatever to make you feel like you are in a computer program. No. And Morpheus says, if the virtual reality apparatus, as you called it, was wired to all of your senses and controlled them completely, would you be able to tell the difference between the virtual world and the real world? And Neo goes, you might not know. No. No. You wouldn't. Oh, man. I love that Morpheus always has to have a declarative sentence. Neo whispers to Trinity. You did all this? She nods, placing a set of headphones over his ears. Oh. Listen to some music. Rob Zombie here. They are wired to an old hotel phone. Morpheus says, the pill you took is part of the trade program.
18:09Oh, that makes sense, though. It's going to make you feel, it's going to make things feel a little bit strange. Honestly, that's all that happens that's different. The only other thing that happens is that Neo says, what's this, mescaline? As the goo goes around him. And you know what's interesting about this draft? People are a lot ruder in this. Really? In this draft, because Morpheus says, shit. Really? Yeah. Oh, what do you mean, what do you mean, ruder? Like, like in swear words, they're much more like. Oh, that's what you mean. Inside was rude. You're ugly. I was going to say, I thought so too. I thought you meant rude, like. No, but what is this? Morpheus never swears, but here. What do you mean, yes, he does. He does? No. Never. When did he do that? I thought he does.
18:50Nope. I guess he's a bit more. Does he? He's trying to be Mr. Holy Man. No, I think Trinity's like the dirty potty mouth. No, maybe Cypher's the worst? No, I don't know. No. Many people, I mean, Neo's the most potty mouthed in this one. In the other one? Yeah. That's about all that happens. You know, everything else goes on as normal. The only thing that they moved Cypher is he's going to pop in this one because. Move it in what sense? Like this one, he's going to pop. He says that later. Oh, yeah. Neo doesn't believe the thing. But here it's like, he's going to pop. That's about it. There you go. In the 1996 one you just mentioned, something, an idea popped into my head. He said they put headphones on his head. Yeah. They're connected to a phone.
19:31That makes perfect sense. Because. Well, they give him a little headphone. Little one. In this one. That's true. But you know how that could work? Because you know how they communicate through the hardwire? They kind of zap themselves in and out. Yeah. So basically they can access the matrix with the phone. You know, they can put in, input their own, you know, code through the phones. So, you know, like back in the day you used to go to the internet, you know, through dial-up. And it was just like the signal. You know, the actual audio signal was the data. Imagine, I think that's what they're like hacking into. They put the headphones on his ears. They send the signal through his ears. And that goes into the matrix.
20:11And it kind of relocates him. You know, they can see. Ah, yes. Where their signal ends within the matrix. Actually, you know what they should have done? They should have said, here, have this phone. Hello? Whoa! And he goes into the phone. Like in. Why didn't you do that? Because it's silly. The headphones are very important because they always disappear from the headphones. They hear the signal. I'll tell you what's silly. And Morpheus always finishing Neo's questions going, no, Neo. You're wrong. I'm right. Well, in this one, it's even worse. Well, because he's rude, of course. Well, in this one, it's even worse, you know. He's like, remember? Like virtual reality. No, Neo. That's what I'm saying. He just, he's telling Neo. No, Neo would not. Just relax, Neo. No. You're wrong.
20:51Neo? What have I told you about being, don't be afraid? What did you tell that to? Remember the Cypher? Remember? What have I told you about being, about fear? Yes, yes, yes. Haven't I always told you, Cypher, not to let fear control your life? Apoc, are we online? I hate that. He's just as annoying. Apoc, the man who wrote the Four Horsemen virus. You know, I'd love to hear more of Morpheus. I want to hear more of Morpheus. Does he? I just want to say, does he own the Four Horsemen? I want to hear Morpheus going like, you know, like, you know, he's talking to someone, he's like, you know, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Trinity, uh, like that kind of stuff. It comes to people who are like, they're standing under the air conditioning, he's like, oh, this is so cold. And he's like, your body can take it.
21:32Yes. I am Morpheus. So yeah, I think. Waste not, what not? Anyway, uh, Neo. Okay, go on. Are we done? We're done. Okay. This is it. This is the end. And now we begin the real story. Now we begin the real podcast. Now we begin the real story. The true podcast begins now. Well, now it's, now it's all, you know, everything will be revealed. All will be revealed. All will be revealed. Oh, yeah, it will be revealed. Oh, there's another thing. There's another interesting thing about Neo going into the, and, you know, get that, that chrome stuff to all over his, his body. It's chrome stuff. And Neo loves it.
22:13Neo loves it. He loves the chrome stuff all over his body. I just wanted to say that. Every second of it. So I mentioned that Neo is, um, anointed by the healed fixed mirror turning liquid as Saul is anointed with oil in 1 Samuel 10, 1. And is swallowed up by God's spirit as he becomes consumed by God. That's interesting. A little parallel there. A bit of a stretch, but yeah, you could, you could, you could draw. I just wanted to end this on a, uh, on a. Biblical note. On a, on a biblical and, uh, uh, well, how would you say sophisticated note. Yes. Good one. Good one. And now it comes time for begging for social media.
