Agent Smith gives Neo a proposition to clear his cyber criminal record in exchange for his

4:11cooperation to get Morpheus. Neo gives him the finger and asks for his phone call. Smith asks what good is a phone call if he's unable to speak. What does this mean? Let's watch it. And that's how the minute ends. Keanu now... Keanu, what am I talking about? Neo, he's retaliating. Tom. He's fighting back. He's against the system. Tommy. But first, what Agent Smith does is he says we're willing to wipe the slate clean. False wipe it, maybe. False wipe. That's what we're going to talk about someday. We will, sir. And to give Neo a fresh start. So, we also find out in the end, Neo does get a fresh start, but not in the way that Smith thinks. You're right.

4:51Not in the legal sense. There's a lot of these hints. But in the spiritual sense. Unintentionally and intentionally. Yep. But yeah, Neo has sarcasm going on when he says like... Well, here's the funny thing. I think that... You know, tell us where Morpheus is and we'll forget about all of this. I think Neo is, at the beginning, quite scared. I don't think he's completely super sarcastic. I remember that we talked about in the last episode of the previous before that, we were saying, Tim was mentioning how Neo kind of like, he's wondering what this is, but then he kind of sees like, oh, like he kind of notices it's going to be like visiting the principal's office. He's sort of like, ah. You know, like he slowly starts to realize this is just a government thing just to get

5:31him to cooperate. But I don't think he's 100% sure. If he'll be able to get out of it. But... I mean, here's the thing. The... Yeah. He has not seen agents as what they are yet. At this point, it's just some dudes that are threatening him. Well, these are government officials. Yeah. And to be honest, they showed that I have every single record of what he hacked. So, yeah, they can put him away for a lifetime. So, I'm a bit shocked that his reaction is, you know... Yeah. I was going to say... Get off my... Get out of my face. What does Morpheus mean to him, right? Well, here's the thing. Like, I think what's interesting here is that this is arguably one of the most, I guess you could say, courageous actions from Neo because he's essentially...

6:14Is this a call to the action? Okay, okay. That's enough. No call to action. But a courageous move. We just keep going. And then at the end of the film, this is a call to action. You know, when he flies up in the air? A call to action. That's a true call to action. No, because I think that here, basically, there's another important choice because Neo, like, he doesn't know what he's getting himself into with Morpheus. Like, for all he knows, it could be horrible. It could be a disaster. You know what I mean? They could, like you said, lock him away for life. But here he's picking to basically just... He's making a choice. He's making a choice. I think this is sort of like solidifying all those choices up till now to actually go further

6:57through with this follow the rabbit stuff. Maybe we're just looking into it too much and maybe he's just like, oh, you know, he dealt with this before. Could be. And he knows that, you know, all this stuff, they put him in the room, they scare him and everything. That doesn't mean nothing. It's still America. You have to go to trial. You know, he has his phone call. He calls his lawyer. He has to go through, you know, like everything. He just can't be like threatened into cooperation just because they have this little file. It could just be that, you know? It doesn't have to be. Plus, I also would say that there's also that sort of hacker mentality where he would rather be with the, you know, hackers and, you know, oppressed people rather than just like give in to government stuff.

7:38Hence why he was a hacker. There's Jacob always finding the positive and the true meaning of, you know. The meeting. The meeting. The meeting of the matter. They're quite, yes, the philosophical higher ground of the things. Yes. I just think he's like, you know, I don't care. I've done this. I'm Tom. I mean, I'm Neo. I'm Tom. Owen. Neo. Okay. So what else do you have? Well, I just wanted to say that then what happens is Neo gives him the finger. That's right. And that's his choice. It's a great humor. It's a great release of the tension of the whole monotony that we had so far.

8:20It's just like, and then I love Hugo Weaving. With that wide shot. We just see the finger in the, you know, out of focus on the corner of the screen. And also Morpheus, he's a very dangerous man. We talked about this last time, but still like, you know. Morpheus. Are you sure? Is Morpheus worth the life of a lowly hacker? That is the question. I don't know. But Neo decides to step up and reject the system by saying, you can't steer me with this Gestapo crap. He wants a phone call. Yeah. I want to read into more of the phone. You want to know about the Gestapo? Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

9:00Like, does anyone, do people know what Gestapo is anymore? You know. If they don't, I can tell you. What do you mean? Yeah. Yeah. The Gestapo, die Geheimstaatspolizei from the 1930s. Yeah. The National Socialist Government in Germany, as Adolf Hitler, became Chancellor. They were an agency that ran for 12 years. With secret police, though. Yeah, to solidify Nazi control and interrogate and arrest anti-Nazis and leftists in Germany. They also encouraged brutality and aggression towards all kinds of naysayers. I don't approve of this. Yeah. Or. Which is where the term came from. That's all I wanted to say. Yeah. Can't scare me with the Gestapo crap. To me, I just always reminded of the Gestapo from that English TV show called Alo Alo.

9:43I don't know. Did you guys ever watch that? Do you know what that is? It's a show that I think was BBC or something. It might have been BBC. It's like, I think it's 80s or 90s. And it's like a classic English sitcom, you know, where the inside stuff is a studio camera. Outside is like actual film. And it's like, there's a laugh track. Like Only Fools and Horses. Yes, yes, yes. That kind of thing. And it's like this French owner of a cafe. And he's working with the resistance and German, his occupied, German occupied friends. And there's all these weird characters. He's got like this wife and he's got all the waitresses and the people working there. He's like having an affair with them. And it's absolutely hilarious. But they have the Gestapos. It's his Herr Flick.

10:23And it's a guy with a black coat and a hat. And he's got like a cane. And he's got like a limp. And it's just, yeah, the most hilarious. And he's got even a little mini-me version kind of him. I'll have to look into that. The Gestapo. That's what it reminds you of? Oh, yeah. I just hear that word every time. Gestapo is just like the first two letters of every word. Geheimen Staatspolizei. Oh, I see. Okay. Gestapo. When I was a kid, of course, that completely flew over my head. And then Geheimen Staatspolizei means secret state police. Oh, see, I was right. Secret police. I happen to know Geheimen. Nazis. Yeah, that when I was a kid, just completely. I was like, what is he talking about? Gizem Gestapo? Whatever. Whatever. Well, I know a crap man. Yeah.

11:03So then, you know, well, that's it. Deal is done. Gives him the finger. Want the phone call. Well, no, I wanted to know is I need to research. I would love to find out this phone call thing. Yeah, the rights, right? Because, yeah, I want to see what the phone call. Well, you had the chance of researching before we started recording. Yeah, yeah. We have usually a gap between apps. It's all up to me. You're right. I'm just sitting here going, I wonder what. Phil, did you research? I was up until four in the morning researching all this stuff. I just didn't do the rights thing. That's the only thing I missed. But, you know, we have three speakers here. Well, here's my knowledge from TV and movies. Yes, there is a right for a phone call. From 21 Jump Street. I don't know. It's everywhere. Now, here's my conundrum.

11:43Of course. Or what you've seen. I've seen this being portrayed as they have the phone call in private. And then there's also they have a phone call like they're standing right next to me. So they're being really, you know, like, oh, blah, blah, blah, blah. But there's definitely a thing. You have a right for a phone call. If you're arrested or whatever, you know, apprehended, you get to call one person. I'm guessing that's just like to sort out some stuff or whatever if you need to. Yep. Like, you know, like, set off the bomb, call the lawyer, call your wife, apologize. So, but in this case, in Thomas Anderson's case, who are you going to call Mr. Anderson? Ghostbusters, clearly.

12:24Well, either Ghostbusters or maybe he has like a, you know, like he calls in, put in a number. A good buddy, Joy. And it's like, he connects to the internet, to his computer and like sets off deleting all like files of him on his computer and everywhere. Oh, man. Oh, that's clever. And he's like, pretend, Susan, please feed my cats. I'm going to jail. And then it's actually, it's just like, it's like a trigger and everything is deleted from the internet. And he's like. Yeah, that's, that's the good one. Try to get me on your Gestapo stuff now. Or the depressing version is Joy. Yes. Joy. Think of mini discs. Think of our zombie. Joy, think of me. Or is it just Morpheus?

13:04I had a great time at the club. Whoa. You know? Yeah, that's what I was thinking. That's what I was wondering. Hey, there you go. There you go. I was going, man. But here's the question. I don't even know who this is, bro. How does he know? Morpheus is a number. He doesn't. He's calling him. He goes to the phone call and he expects Morpheus to call. I think it was just an empty threat. Oh, yeah. You're right. Maybe he does expect Morpheus just to call. Okay. Morpheus knows everything. Yeah. Morpheus, the magic man. Or Dio just wants to show the finger. He thought of a cool line to say. You know what I mean? Yeah. That's right. He's raging against the machine. Probably. Here's an interesting fact about this room. Usually in movies, they have the classic interrogation room where it's like the one side. Did Mirror? Two sides? One side. Yeah. Yeah. And everything. It's good that this is completely, I would say, irregular.

13:46There's no good cop, bad cop. It's just him. He's the bad cop. The good cop. He's the insane cop. That would be super cheesy. The financial cop is everything. Good cop, bad cop. I wouldn't like that. The good agent and the bad agent. So cheesy. Well, one thing to notice, obviously, I think we mentioned this in the last episode, was that he takes off his sunglasses. Yeah. Well, that's why he did that. He took off his sunglasses to kind of... I think... I personally believe it's Smith being unique to the other agents where he's showing signs of more life than the other ones. Or maybe just trying to show, you know, I'm just a regular guy. Well, and that's a double meaning, too. By the way, this is Neo's work suit, right? He's wearing the work. His untidy, unkempt work suit.

14:27With the yellow inlining. So the last threat here, and the last line in this minute, is where Smith takes up his glasses and puts them on again and goes, tell me, Mr. Anderson, what good is a phone call if you're unable to speak? Dun, dun, dun! What is this, like, really, like, what does this mean? Well, we'll find out the next episode. Because the music starts playing. And then Morpheus runs in through the door. Neo! Neo! And behind him, the whole crew from the Nebuchadnezzar is beating up the agents. You must get Neo out!
